Sunday Morning Series - The Spirit of Antichrist - "The Effect of The Spirit of Antichrist (Part 2)"

Last week, we looked at the Environment that the spirit of anti-christ tries to promote. This week, we'll see how it seeks to affect us in our Character.

Once the environment is created, the goal is for it to have an effect on us, so that what's on the inside alters what is on the outside. While there are many character issues, we'll narrow down our focus to the top 5.

What are the most important character issues in the Word of God?

1)  Love

2)  Faith

Darkness comes from Satan. He wants to get you into works. You're not forgiven, healed, or anything else because you deserve it or earn it. We step out of the realm of faith when we step into works.

3)  Hope

Hebrews 6:17-20 & 7:18-19
I Peter 1:21

Hope is an anchor that holds us steady.

4)  Patience

The Effect of The Spirit of Antichrist - Part 1 Environment

Text: Exodus 5:6-23

The Method

The goal of the spirit of Antichrist is to cause the Gospel of Jesus Christ to be difficult to:

1.  Preach
2.  Promote
3.  Accept

So, it will move on those who can sway public opinion against the truth of the Gospel through:

1.  Speeches
2.  Media (written, audio, or video)
3.  Laws

These, in turn, help sway public opinion and create peer pressure to refuse the Gospel and see it as foolishness.

Example:  Pharaoh (Exodus 5:6-23)

Pharaoh makes a law that the Hebrews must provide their own straw for bricks and still meet their quotas. The law wasn't designed to increase production, but rather influence their behavior. He wanted the people to disregard Moses' words.

Remember that one of the earmarks of the spirit of Antichrist is to disguise its real intentions. Laws are passed to control or to silence critics or those who would promote the truth, or to change the environment so that peers would do it for them.

The men will be going to the annual Philadelphia Auto Show on Friday, January 25th. You can meet us there or ride/follow the group into the city. We're leaving on or about 4:00 P.M.

The Spirit of AntiChrist - Recognizing the Spirit of AntiChrist

Text:  I John 4:1-3, 2John 1:6-7 & I John 3:7, and various others

First off, this is not about identifying who THE AntiChrist is. This is about seeing the traits of the AntiChrist spirit. This spirit is not the opposite of Christ, but rather is against Christ.

Characteristics of the AntiChrist Spirit (They are progressive.)

1.  Deceives

Every time Jesus talks about the end times, he warns against deception. (Matt. 24:1-13, 24) There are miracles on both sides, but the motivation is different. People will try to deceive you.

See Romans 16:18, 2 Timothy 3:13, I John 2:26-27.

2)  Disguises Intentions

Remember when the Wise Men asked Herod where they could find the King of the Jews? Herod asked them to come back and let him know where this king was located so he could go worship. In fact, he wanted to destroy Jesus.

People may disguise their intentions for other purposes, but the spirit of AntiChrist does so to come against Christ, the church, and the Word. See Ephesians 5:6 & Colossians 2:4

3)  Discredits falsely those who expose and oppose

The Pharisees labeled Jesus a deceiver, but never debated the truth. They were the ones who were the deceivers.

4)  Divides

 In order to conquer, you need to divide. The Spirit of God does not divide rich and poor, young     and old, etc. See Romans 16:17, I Corinthians 1:10, Jude 1:17-19.

5)  Nastier ones - Silences

The spirit of AntiChrist hides its true agenda. It takes you down step by step, and is in no rush. See Acts 4:13-18 - The leaders tried to silence the opposition.

6)  Usurps

The spirit of AntiChrist does not come to power by legitimate means. It usurps it. In the Old     Testament, Athaliah killed all her grandbabies to become queen. (She missed one.)

7)  Controls & Dominates

"You'll do it my way or die."

8)  Capable of great acts of selfishness
