Sunday Morning Series - Walking in the Authority of Jesus - Merged or Purged

Text:  Exodus 32:7-35

Suffering is when your will is in conflict with God's will. Temptation merely gets us to think about the benefits of a way other than God's.

Schools sometimes teach what is called, "situational ethics." They give a scenario where it seems the only solution is to sin. First of all, the situation doesn't exist. If you're in that place at some point, you can ask God to show you what to do, and He will give you an answer.

Tithing is agreeable when you have more than enough to pay your bills, but when you lose your job it creates conflict. The Biblical way to get out of debt and prosper financially is to give.

We're torn when we meet someone and really like them but discover they're an unbeliever.

As long as we permit two wills to reside in us, we will always border on lack of submission to God. The goal is to die to our selfish desires and make God's will ours.

It is God's will to reveal His will. Philippians 3:15.
It is God's will to reward His kids. Hebrews 11:6
It is God's will to restore that which was lost. Joe 2:25
It is God's will to relent from His wrath. Exodus 32:14, Hosea 6:6, Matthew 9:13, and Matthew 12:7

"You may know a truth but not know how to apply it." - Pastor Stephen Hecht, 8/23/15

This Week at Zoe

On Wednesday, 8/26/15, at 7:30 PM, we'll gather for our midweek service. Pastor Steve will be teaching on 2 Kings 1. We'll be looking at the life of king Ahaziah, son of king Ahab. Elijah intercepts the king's messenger sent to inquire of Baal-Zabub and has a word of the Lord to be taken back to king Ahaziah. Ahaziah's response is one for the books and has been recorded here for us to study!

Here is a question we will get into: What happens when your boss asks you to do something you don't think is right?

On Sunday, 8/30/15, at 10:00 AM, we'll meet for our Sunday Morning Service. Children's church will also begin at 10:00 AM. Zoe Christian Fellowship is located at 1111 Easton Rd. (Route 611), in Warrington, PA.

Sunday Morning Series - Walking in the Authority of Jesus - Understanding Temptation

Text: Matthew 4:1-11

If the purpose of Jesus being lead into the wilderness was to be tempted by the devil, why do we have no record of him showing up until after 40 days?

During those 40 days, Jesus spent time in prayer and fasting to build up His spirit. Like Jesus, we do not need to prove who we are to anyone or any evil spirit. If we don't know who we are in Christ, we'll be open to what's false.

The temptations Jesus faced were real. His natural need here is food, but the spiritual need was knowing who He was in God. The Father had already given Him direction, but the enemy offered Him an "easier" way. Satisfaction of natural needs is only detrimental to our spiritual growth if we sacrifice what is spiritual to do so.

When Satan tempted Jesus, he quoted scripture. It was truth, but he applied it wrong. It is not enough to know truth. We must know how to rightly apply it. (2 Timothy 2:15 NKJV) "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." How you get there is more important than what you got!

Sunday Morning - Guest Speaker, Angel Garrett

Text:  James 1:21-25 & Various

When I was growing up, my mother taught me many things. One of them was how to take a piece of a dead plant and graft it into a thriving one. Soon, the dead piece would spring to life as it became one with the healthy plant.

In Hebrews 5:11 and on to the end of the chapter, we see that if you don't grow, you'll become dull and regress to the point where you'll need to re-learn the basics of the faith. While reading the Word of God is good, it's not enough to make it part of you. We must push it in any way we can until it becomes a part of us. The ways I do this is:

1.  Read it with "I" inserted to personalize the scripture.
2.  Read it like God is saying it directly to you.
3.  Read it your circumstances.

Example:  From Psalm 91 - Angel, you dwell in my secret place...

When we don't eat food, we feel the effects. Some people get headaches. Weakness overtakes our bodies. As soon as we give our bodies the nutrition it needs, a change occurs. It's the same thing with the Word.

Sunday Morning Series - Walking in the Authority of Jesus - The Source of Rebellion

Text:  Numbers 16:41 - 17:13

Attacks come from any of the three realms:  Satan's kingdom, the world's system, our flesh with the same purpose:

1.  To pull us into sin.
2.  To push us into judgment.
3.  Thereby opening the door for judgment to come upon us.

Where does judgment come from?

1.  God has put a hedge of protection around us.
2.  The enemy has to get us into a position where he can devour us either through sin or judging.

People like to quote the scripture that says judge not lest ye be judged. What they are saying is they don't want anyone telling them what they're doing is wrong. Yet, other places in scripture tell us we are to judge.

We are to judge actions, but not the motives of others. We don't know their hearts. If we ask them why they did something and they tell us, that's a different story.

It's easy to fall into the judging trap. We constantly hear other Christians judging ministers and ministries. One ministry got a lot of flack for raising money for a jet. It's between them and God. If we don't like it, we don't have to support it, but we have no right to judge the motives of that minister.
