Sunday Morning Series - Give God Something to Work With - Stable

Text:  2 Kings 4

In 2 Kings 4:8-11, the Shunnamite woman persuades the prophet to take some food. She's called a notable woman in the Scripture and desires to take care of the man of God. She enlists her husband's support to make a special room just for him, so he can stay whenever he's in the area.

The prophet is grateful and has his servant fetch her. She stands in the doorway. This is his room, and she treats him with great respect. Elisha asks her what he can do for her as a reward, but she's content and does not ask for anything.

She's thankful to provide for him. Sometimes we can become nonchalant about the daily miracles in our lives and take them for granted. The Israelites became accustomed to manna and God's protection.

Elisha wants to do something for her, and Gehazi points out that the woman has no son, and her husband is old. She's again called, and the prophet declares she'll have a son about the same time next year. At first, she's responding, "don't get my hopes up." Then, she receives the word.

The child is born and grows. While out in the field with his father, he cries that his head hurts. The father has a servant take him home to his mother. She cares for him, but he dies in her arms. She takes him and lays him on the prophet's bed. No one goes in that room but the prophet, so no one will disturb the body.

A message is sent to her husband via a servant. The husband asks if everything is alright. The woman does not wail and say, "our boy is dead." Instead, she says that all is well, using the word, "Shalom," which is peace. A servant and a donkey take her to the prophet. She falls before him and grabs his feet. Gehazi tries to pull her away, but Elisha tells him to leave her alone.

He tells Gehazi that her soul is heavy, but God has hidden the problem from him. He goes with her, and he enters the room built especially for him. Only he is inside. He prays and stretches himself over the child, and raises him from the dead.

Sometimes things happen you don't understand. The best thing you can do is shut your mouth. Don't try to explain something you don't understand. Don't declare your ignorance.

What did this woman give God to work with?

1) She recognized the hand of God and got involved with it. She didn't take the blessing of the prophet's presence for granted.

2) She looked for ways to get involved.

3) Her motives were pure.

4)  She was not thrown by appearances.

5)  She remained stable in a storm.

Sunday Morning Service - Give God Something To Work With - Desperate!

Text:  I Kings 17

Nuggets from Sunday's Message

1.  There's a difference between having a belief and ordering your life around those beliefs.

2.  God's provision is not in a place, but in His command.

3.  Faith looks from the present to the future, while works looks from the past to the present.

4.  The Word of God does not command us to be doubt free, but to not doubt in our heart. Doubt in our head doesn't produce fear, while doubt in our heart does.

5.  God will use what you have. Everything the widow in I Kings 17 confessed to having was increased. What you speak is important.

6.  If you're not afraid, you're not doubting. Doubt in your heart produces fear.

7.  When you've learned to depend on God, that trust is what you hold onto. Your level of trust is what's holding you down.

Sunday Morning Series - Give God Something To Work With - The Light of Life

Text:  John 1:1-13

The Operation of Life

Four truths about the Word:

1)  The Word is eternal.
2)  The Word is equal to God.
3)  The Word is  God
4)  The Word is creative.

The Operation of Light

The life (Zoe) was the light of men. Without light, living things do not grow. I Peter 2:9 tells us that we're called out of darkness and into his marvelous light. I John 1:5, 2:8 & 10 says there is no darkness in God.

If you were the enemy, what would you do to trip up the believer? You would try to taint or corrupt the Word. This is what he did in the Garden of Eden. To absorb what is close to or like the Word, is to accept what is not the Word. The Word is eternal. Anything added is not.

How Do You Come to the Light?

John 1:12-13 - We come to the light by receiving Jesus. It's not enough to know about him. We need to receive him.

To hear the entire message, we invite you to visit our website, and  click on the Listen tab. You can listen online, download the message to your MP3 player, or podcast FREE.

If you're visiting in the area or looking for a church home, we hope you'll stop by and share our Sunday Morning Service at 10:00 A.M. We're located at 1111 Easton Rd. (Rte. 611), in Warrington, PA.  The church phone number is (215) 343-7686 or you can obtain information on our website (see above link). We'd love to meet you!
