Sunday Morning Series - Walking in the Authority of Jesus - Submission is not Deaf

Text:  Luke 22:39-46

Submission is NOT D.E.A.F.

1.  D - Drama. This is where you do what's asked of you, but then proceed to tell others you think you're right.

2.  E - Easy. Submission involves doing something you don't agree with and that's never easy. If you say it is, then you're doing something you really have no objection to doing.

3.  A - Agreement. Just because you agree doesn't mean you're in submission. Submission involves doing what you don't want to do.

4.  F - Forced.  Submission by its very nature cannot be demanded. If a husband is telling his wife to submit, he's exerting force. By the same token, the wife who tells her husband he's supposed to love her is equally wrong.

Submission goes out of its way to hear and understand what is asked or expected.

Pastor Steve gives examples, using Moses, Abraham and Jesus. To hear the full message, we invite you to go to our website and click on the Listen Tab. You can listen online, download it to your MP3 player or Podcast FREE.

Sunday Morning Series - Walking in the Authority of Jesus - The King and I

Text:  James 4:1-12 & Various

What is Right?

In Judges 17:6 & 21:25 it says there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes. The reason everyone did their own thing was because there was no king.

The reason people do whatever they want is because there is no king in their lives. What is right and lawful and what should be done is determined by the king. Most of our problems in life come from either not having or disobeying the king.

Who Makes the Laws?

The Word tells us that God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. Do we want resistance or grace?

James 4:1-12 tells us to submit to God. The Greek word from which this is translated is hupotasso and means to subordinate, to obey, be under obedience (obedient), put under, submit oneself unto.

We do the submitting. It is not done unto us. Too many people are busy figuring out how to resist the devil when they haven't submitted themselves to God first.

Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

The word here for resist is anthistemi - to stand against, oppose, resist, withstand.

Flee comes from the word, pheugo - to run away, to shun, to anish, escape, or flee (away)

The believer must do both: Submit to God and Resist the devil.

After Revival!

Text:  2 Samuel 23:20-23

A week ago, we enjoyed four wonderful days with Jay and Tammy Hoskins. Many received physical healings and others moved to a greater understanding of God's Word.

Once we've received something from God, the enemy or those who don't want us to be blessed will rise up to take it or get it away from us. How do we retain what we've gained and continue to move forward?

Some of the tactics the enemy will use to rob us include pressure by what we feel or pressure by what we fear. When you are on the offense, you make decisions by principle, not by pressure.

In 2 Samuel 23:20-23, Benaiah (God Built) kills a lion by going into a pit. Others killed lions. David killed one protecting his sheep. Samson killed one in self defense. Daniel faced lions because he was thrown into their den. But Benaiah jumped into the pit voluntarily and killed the lion.

When we have battled a condition for a long time, we can feel like we are in a pit with a lion, something that wants to kill us, and we have no escape. Our attitude is more like one who fell into the pit instead of one who jumped into it. How do we know which attitude we're exhibiting? If we listen to how we're praying, we'll know. Are they cries for help or prayers for victory? Our attitudes shape our future.

Sunday Morning Series - Learn to Discern - Expect God to Lead You?

Text:  Various

God speaks to us in a number of ways.

Inward Speaking - It seemed good

A.  Luke 1:1-4 - It seemed like a good idea to Luke to write down the things he witnessed Jesus say and do, as well as the Paul's ministry.

B.  Luke 10:21
C.  Acts 15:25, 28, 34 - It was something that required a great deal of time and commitment.

This is the lowest level of revelation.

Inward Knowing

A.  Matthew 12:15, 25 - Jesus knew what they were thinking. No one told Him.
B.  John 6:61, 64 - Jesus knew who the betrayer was from the beginning.
C.  John 13:1 & John 16:19 - He knew the questions they wanted answered.

Inward Hearing

Sometimes the Spirit of God will speak on the inside of you.

Revelation from His Word

A.  Daniel 9:1-3 - As Daniel read the writings of the prophet, Jeremiah, he understood the captivity would last 70 years. After he read that, Daniel prayed in a different way.

B.  Jesus - Luke 4:16-21 - Jesus read a passage of scripture in the temple but stopped before it came to an end. He declared that the scripture (to that point) was fulfilled that day. The rest of the scripture was for a later time.

Outward Leading

A.  Outward hearing

      1.  Samuel - I Samuel 3:8-14 - Eli instructs Samuel on how to respond to God's voice.
      2.  Paul - Acts 22:6-9 - He heard an audible voice

B.  Prophecy

     1.  The disobedient prophet - I Kings 13
     2.  Paul - Acts 22:12-16 -
     3.  Parable of the Vineyard - Mark 12:1-12

Don't be directed by prophecy. It should confirm what you already know in your heart. Be careful with anything that comes from an outward source. It needs to be judged by God's Word.

Special Revelation

A.  Dreams and Visions

      1.  Genesis 37 - Joseph had dreams and knew what they meant. If you don't know what a dream means, it's probably nothing of consequence.

      2.  Daniel - Daniel 2 - He had a vision.

      3.  Peter - Acts 10 - He had a vision and pondered its meaning. Soon after, he received a request to visit the house of Cornelius, a Gentile. He then knew God wanted him to accept the invitation.

      4.  Joseph - Matthew 1:19-25 - Joseph had a dream and knew he was to take Mary as his wife.

Visitation

A.  Abraham - Genesis 18:1-2 - He saw people and entertained them.
B.  Joshua - Joshua 5:13-15
C.  Zacharias and Mary - Luke 2 - An angel appeared to both of them.

Caught Up

A.  Paul - 2 Corinthians 12:1-4
B.  John - Revelation 4:1

This is rare. The greater the revelation the greater the opposition you'll be facing.

Application:  There are many ways God speaks to us. Though we may desire the stronger ones, what comes to us is what we need.

The first several ways are more common and preferable. You'll never be 100% sure you're hearing from God. The enemy will do everything he can to plant doubt in your heart. It takes faith to move forward, especially when you face difficult circumstances.
