Text:  II Chronicles 20

God's Battle Plan for Victory

In this chapter, Jehoshaphat re-aligns himself with God and makes some changes. Difficulties come to all of us. We live in a fallen world and people have a free will. This king faced a challenge so big only God could deliver him and his nation. A huge army marched toward them, ready to do battle.
When Jehoshaphat heard about it, he feared.

He sought the Lord, and God instructed him what he and the nation should do. In this instance God fought for them, and all their enemies killed each other.

When we're presented with situations and respond in fear, we open the door to all the negative effects. John 10:10 tells us the enemy come to steal, kill, and destroy. Our reaction to challenges determines the  results. 365 times in the Word, God tells us not to fear.

Being tempted to fear is different from responding to a problem. There's a natural fear that tells us to not get too close to the edge of a cliff. It's about self-preservation. The kind of fear we're talking about is a demonic fear. II Timothy 1:7 says, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and a sound mind."

The spirit of fear tries to undermine our authority as believers, questions our abilities, steals our peace, well being, etc. (Luke 10:19). Fear is under our feet. We're to live fearless. Recognize the symptoms and shut it down.

Sunday Morning Series - Under The Surface - Finding Gold

Text:  Acts 6:8-15 and various

We've looked at positive aspects of searching for the "gold" in others. Sometimes to get an understanding of the positive, we need to look at the negative.

Anger cannot overcome wisdom until it is able to move the  field from what is sensible to what is emotional. At that point, it still needs two things to happen:

1.  A crowd who follows
2.  And leaders  who look to appease.

When Jesus was before Pilate, the leaders stirred up the crowd with accusations:

1.  He's perverting the nation. (What does that mean?  It's very broad and vague.)
2.  He doesn't pay taxes. (On the contrary, Jesus told people to give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.)

3.  He says He is Christ, the King. (True, but He said His Kingdom was not of  this world.)

When Pilate said, "I find no fault in him," the religious leaders attacked him verbally.

The spirit of Anti-Christ is in this world. The tactics are the same throughout history:

1.  Put pressure on people to compromise.
2.  If it  meets with resistance, the spirit of Anti-Christ comes against their character. In today's world, the media tries to tell you who is moral and who is not. They will lie to steer you to their way of thinking.

Can you be stirred up by what is false? By what is evil?

Sunday Morning Series - Under The Surface - I Will Make You

Text:  Genesis 12, 13, and 15

Abraham's name means, "father of many nations." Yet, he didn't have any children.God appeared to him in a vision and told him He would do six things and two others would also be accomplished. Abraham points out the obvious: How will this happen since I have no child and my servant is my heir? God reiterates that Abraham's descendants will be as the dust of the earth and the sand of the sea. He's told to not be afraid.

Fear and faith cannot coexist.

Sunday Morning Series - Under the Surface - For Our Benefit

Text:  Mark 5:25-34

In Matthew 9:18-22 - "and suddenly" was not as sudden as it appears. The woman who touched the hem of Jesus' garment went through a process. Many others touched Jesus in the crowd, but when she touched His garment, power went from Him.

1.  She heard about Jesus.
2.  She pondered how this could affect her.
3.  She received revelation.
4.  She thought and spoke that revelation.
5.  She acted on it.

Was she sad when she heard and thought about Jesus? The two things that accompany faith are joy and peace.

The next story we're looking at is Jairus.

1.  He was saying the same things. "...and she will live."
2.  But then he heard some things that shook him.
3.  Jesus words to him..."Do not be afraid; only believe."

Jairus obeyed, and he received the answer to his request.

In I Samuel 16:17-23, David was sent to be a great benefit to Saul. His anointed playing, his victory over Goliath, and as a great warrior were valuable. Then things changed when the people began to sing about David's successes. Saul became angry and displeased. From that day forward, he was jealous of David and sought to destroy him.

The woman received her healing.
Jairus almost lost the answer when fear tried to enter in.
Saul lost the great benefit of having David on his team.
