Sunday Morning Series - The Wisdom of God - The Make Up of the Foolish

Text:  Genesis 3:1-7 and Various

There are four pillars in the Wisdom of God:

1.  Knowledge of God
2.  The Fear of the Lord (obedience)
3.  Discerning what is valuable
4.  God-given Understanding or revelation

Walking in less than wisdom:

1.  The Simple

     A.  They may have some knowledge but may or may not discern what is of value.

     B.  If those who are simple obey God, they'll usually stay out of trouble.

 2.  The Foolish

      A.  They may have some knowledge, but don't care where it comes from as long as they agree with it.

      B.  They walk by the light of feelings and experiences, not by the Word of God. Note: I read an article that said rich people say what they feel 10% of the time. Poor people say what they feel 85% of the time.

      C.  They have no idea what has value.

      D.  In Luke 24:15, we see people reasoning. Without revelation, we rely on reasoning.

            1.  When Peter declared that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the living God, he wasn't reasoning. He received revelation.

3.  The Scornful

      A.  They walk against wisdom regardless of signs, wonders, and miracles.

      B.  Regardless of the light of revelation.

      C.  They will stand against it to  protect what they have and might lose.

Understanding comes by revelation. The enemy comes to steal the Word sown and confuse the revelation we have through reasoning. Reasoning in your heart is warring against revelation. Revelation is received, while reasoning is hard work.

Sunday Morning Series - The Wisdom of God - Don't be Foolish

Text:  Matthew 7:15-29, Mark 9:14-30, Luke 11:37-54

According to scripture, there are four types of people:

Wise
Simple
Foolish
Scornful

A foolish person says what they feel. They may hear wisdom, but they do not apply it. A good example of this is found in the story of the wise man and the foolish man. One built his house on solid rock, and it withstood a great storm. The foolish man built upon the sand. He did not look ahead and plan for the likelihood of a storm. His house was destroyed.

A wise person is skilled in what they do. They pursue wisdom and understanding on how to apply it to their lives.

A foolish person does what he feels is right. The wise person does what he knows is right.

The fool has no eye for the future. They live in the now.

The fool is not concerned with their lack of knowledge, understanding or discernment. "What I have is good enough for me."

Knowledge, understanding, and discernment are available to all. There is no special call, gift, or anointing to obtain these, just a command to pursue them.

Sunday Morning Series - The Wisdom of God - Don't Be Simple

Text:  Matthew 16:3-12, John 8:1-11

When Joe McGee was with us, he spoke on the four types of people discussed in Proverbs 1:20-22:

1.  Wise - They know what is right and correct through understanding, and are able to anticipate what will come.

2.  Simple - Sometimes discern what is right and correct, but lack the understanding as to why.

3.  Foolish - Unable to discern right from wrong and don't care to until harm comes to them.

4.  Scornful - Despise what is proved to be right, good, and beneficial.

Wisdom contains understanding, and understanding contains discernment. Discernment is the distinguishing of what has value.

In Matthew 16:3-12, Jesus warned the disciples of the leaven of the Pharisees. They immediately thought it was because they'd forgotten to take bread. He reminded them of how he'd fed the 5,000 and the 4,000 on another occasion. Once they had the correct understanding, they came to a correct conclusion. He was talking about the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Sunday Series - The Wisdom of God - The Things That Corrupt

Text:  Proverbs 5 & 6

The time to gain favor is to get it before you need it. Peace, pleasantness, and happiness will be found in the ways of wisdom.

What are the things that bring corruption into our lives:

A.  Bad People

The proverb warns young men not to get involved with and to stay far away from seducing women. The same warning can apply to young women as well. If not you get involved on three levels.

1.  Physical - The Scriptures talk about the two becoming one flesh. Engaging in physical intimacy creates a bond.

2.  Emotional - Our souls become entangled.

3.  Spiritual - This is a deep connection that's very hard to break if it's wrong.

What happens when we get this involved:

1.  We give up our honor.
2.  We give up years of our life.
3.  We give up our wealth.
4.  We give up our health.

A prime example of this is Samson (Judges 16:1-21). He went against sound wisdom and got involved with Philistine women, the most famous was Delilah.

B.  Bad Promises

Proverbs 6:1-5 warns us against guaranteeing or co-signing loans for friends. This is a good way to destroy a friendship and get into a financial bind.

C.  Bad Pursuits

Proverbs 6:6-35 talks about taking lessons from the ant. God wants us to plan ahead and work each day with the future in view. Beware of too much non-productive time.
