Sunday Morning Series - The Need for Faithfulness - Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Text:  2 Timothy 2:1-20

There are two rules in a family:

Rule 1 - Mama is always right.
Rule 2 - If you think Mama is wrong, read Rule 1.

Well, there's a similar rule for God:

Rule 1 - God is always faithful.
Rule 2 - If it seems God has let you down or been unfaithful in any way, see Rule 1.

God's faithfulness isn't dependent upon or influenced by the faithfulness of others. Think about Gideon. He's hiding from the Philistines even though God's called him to deliver Israel. He tells God he's the weakest of his family, and his family is the weakest in his tribe. God's view is totally different. He calls Gideon a mighty man of valor, a warrior.

In 2 Timothy 2:1-20, we're instructed to be strong in the grace...." We're also told to endure hardship AS A GOOD SOLDIER. The word endure here isn't about gritting your teeth during difficulties. It's about going through the situation and sticking to the principles of the Word.

Sunday Morning Series - The Need For Faithfulness - People of Might and Valor

Text:  Judges 6:1-27

How does God view and deal with the unfaithful?

At the time, there were problems in Israel. Baal worship, sin, and great poverty were rampant. The Midianites were raiding the nation and stripping them of their crops and animals.

The Angel of the Lord appears to Gideon while he's secretly working on wheat in a winepress. We know from studying about the Angel of the Lord that this was actually Jesus Christ because he received worship. Angels always forbade men from worshipping them.

The Angel of the Lord addresses Gideon as a mighty man of valor. Gideon responds with the equivalent of, "yeah, right." He points out that his family is the weakest in his tribe, and that he was the weakest person in his family. God has plans for him to deliver Israel from the Midianites, and he makes it plain that Gideon is His guy for the task.

Gideon isn't seeing the call. He's not living the call, and he's certainly not hearing the call. He's frustrated and wondering why the great things God has done in the past He's no longer doing. When we're in the "land of frustration," faith is like another language.

What has gotten in Gideon's way?

1.  The words of other people.
2.  The thoughts of his own mind.
3.  The power of his emotions.

He cannot hear (receive) the words of the Lord!

The Angel of the Lord instructs Gideon to cut down an altar of Baal and put the wood on a nearby rock. He then had Gideon bring an offering. The Angel of the Lord touched the rock, and the sacrifice was consumed by fire.

This impacted Gideon dramatically. To hear the rest of the story and the application to our lives, please visit our website and click on the Media tab. You can listen online, download it to your MP3 player, or podcast.

Sunday Morning Series - The Need For Faithfulness - Unfaithful to Faithful

Text:  Exodus 2, 3, and 4

Exodus 2:1-15 tells us 12 times what Moses did. There is not a single mention of God in this passage. Did that mean he was all bad? Hebrews 11:23-27 tells us he was a man of faith and forsook Egypt.

Once he discovered his Hebrew heritage, he wanted to see and help his brethren. He didn't go about it the right way, seeking God's direction. Instead, he went and saw an Egyptian mistreating a Hebrew. He looked around and then killed the Egyptian. The next time he went there, two Hebrews were fighting. When he chided them, the one asked if he was going to kill him like he killed the Egyptian.

Frightened that his deed was known and that Pharaoh sought to kill him, he fled to Midian. The shame he felt caused him to quit the calling of God on his life, but God didn't quit on him. The children of Israel were in bondage for 390 years at that time. They were supposed to be freed after 400 years, but Moses' mistakes stretched that out to 430 years.

What did it take to turn Moses around and humbly follow God's direction? Please visit our website and click on the Media Tab for the entire message. You can read it online, download it to your MP3 player, or podcast.

Sunday Morning Series - The Need For Faithfulness - How Does God See The Unfaithful?

Text:  Acts 9:1-30

Paul's Conversion

Saul (later to be called, "Paul") was confused. He thought he was doing God's work, but Jesus told him it was persecution. Righteous anger that goes against God is never from God. It originates from Satan.

How many Christians today are angry at something and feel they have God's heart on the matter? My attitude and inspired works in the anger will often reveal their source.

Ananias Sent

The Lord said in a vision - Saul has a vision of Ananias coming and laying hands on him. A well-know minister once said when he had a vision he knew he's be facing very strong opposition.

Levels of Revelation -

1.  Direct statement in the Word.
2.  Inward witness
3.  Revealed truth in the Word.
4.  Dreams
5.  Audibly spoken direction
6.  Vision
7.  Face-to-face

Our space is limited here, but these are more fully explained in the message. Please visit our website to get the entire teaching. You can listen online by clicking on the Media Tab, download it to your MP3 player, or podcasting.
