Sunday Morning Series - The Need For Faithfulness - Did You Hear That?

Text:  Romans 10:8-21 & Various

There's a flow you need to get into:

God (Word) - Messenger - You - Belief - Action!

Four Roadblocks to growing in faithfulness:

1.  Ignorance - Romans 10:8-9

A.  "Lacking in knowledge - uninformed, unaware."

B.  Causes - not being in the right place or lazy. It's important to be where the Word of God is preached/taught. If we cannot find a local congregation, there are plenty of resources on the Internet, such as YouTube.

C.  God sends people like Jeremiah and Ezekiel because He wants people  to hear the truth.

2.  Faithless - Romans 10:10-13

A.  A faithlesss person is one whos tops the flow at the hearing of the Word.

B.  They did not listen - Zechariah 1:4

C.  They didn't pay attention. - Zechariah 7:11

3/  Unfaithful - Romans 10:14-19

A.  An unfaithful person is one who stops the flow at the doing of the Word.

B.  They neither act or speak theWord they have heard and come to know.

Sunday Morning Series - the Need For Faithfulness - But I Need More

Text:  Numbers  16:1-40 & Various

Jeremiah and Ezekiel were contemporaries. Jeremiah belonged to the upper classes, so he was carried away to Babylon during the captivity. Ezekiel was in the lower classes and remained in Jerusalem. In addition to these true prophets, a false prophet, Hananiah, predicted the captivity would only last two years, while the true prophets were saying it would be many years (70).

The people became so confused as to who they should believe that they began to despise prophecy. They didn't want to hear it anymore.

In Numbers 16:4-11, we see people (Korah and others) who served God in the temple perceived that Moses as:

1.  Taking on too much.
2.  Thought he was better than others.
3.  Exalted himself.
4.  And kept them from ministry.

To envy what others have is to despise what we have been given. Grow in your role within the Body of Christ and don't try taking someone else's upon yourself.

A rebellious person  is in pursuit of what someone else has and feels that they are more deserving of it. Moses set it up for God to decide the argument. He points out that Korah and those supporting him did not highly esteem what God had called them to do.

Sunday Morning Series - The Need for Faithfulness - Persuaded to be Unfaithful"

Text:  Joshua 9:1-27

Last week, we talked about how Joshua was tricked into making a covenant with the Gibeonites. They convinced him and the elders they were from a far country when, in fact, they were residents of the Promised Land.

When the other kings in the land heard the Gibeonites made a deal with Israel, they banded together and planned an attack. All these kings had unusual names and illustrate how the devil comes at you.

5 Ways The Devil Comes at You

1.  The first king's name was Adonai Zedek, king of Jerusalem, which means, "lord of justice or righteousness.

This is Satan's counterfeit version of Melchezedek. The scripture tells us that Satan comes as an angel of light. Some churches worship a Jesus that isn't the Jesus of the Bible.

A number of years ago, we contacted churches in the area to see if we could do some things together. One church in particular responded that they worshipped God, Jesus - and a whole lot of other gods. Yet they were listed as a Christian church. When confronted with the Word of God, they waved it off, saying we don't go by that.

2.  The second king was Hoham, the  king of Hebron. This means, "voice of the multitude."

Satan will try to persuade you by the popular opinion. When the 12 spies returned from checking out the Promised Land, all but two of them declared the inhabitants were far too powerful and could not be defeated. The people agreed with the negative report. The majority is not always right.

3.  The third king was Jarmuth - Piram, which means, "like a wild ass."

This stands for human reasoning. Taking your eyes off the word of God and focusing on other things like human reasoning will lead you into doing what you want and not submitting to God.

4.  The fourth king was Japhia, king of Lachish, which means, "splendid, dazzling to the eyes."

Satan uses the lust of the eyes and the lure of the world to distract us from where we should be.

5.  The fifth king was Debir, king of Eglon, which means, "oracle."

When all else fails, Satan will come at you head on.

Sunday Morning Series - The Need for Faithfulness - Persuaded to be Unfaithful

Text:  Joshua 9:1-27

God always prepares us for what He's leading us into. He will never:

1.  Lead us into something where we'll have to put the Word aside.

2.  Lead us to a place that promotes what you see over what you believe.

3.  Lead us to a place where the wrong things are amply supplied.

4.  Lead us to a place of fear, unrest, and uncertainty.

In Joshua 9:1-6, the Gibeonites come to Joshua and the elders. They're wearing old, tattered clothing and carrying moldy food. All this is to back up their claim to be from a distance. They've seen how God delivered Jericho and Ai into the hands of the Israelites, and decide to approach them to make a covenant. It's the only way they will survive.

Joshua and the elders were deceived by their trickery and made a covenant. The are several traits of deception:

1.  Was this covenant necessary? If they're from a far country, it doesn't matter. However, if they're one of the locals that God has said to destroy, it would cause them problems down the road.

2.  There was pressure to decide now. If they're from a distance, they'll need to rest and get supplies for the return journey. This would give Joshua and the elders time to seek God on whether or not to make a covenant with them.

3.  They were being asked to make a decision based on what they saw. Don't be moved by what you see. Believe what you don't see.

This is a brief summary of the message. To hear the entire teaching, please visit our website and click on the Medi Tab. You can listen online, download it to your MP3 player, or podcast.

Sunday Morning Series - The Need for Faithfulness - Is This For Me?

Text:  Matthew 19:16-22 & Joshua 1 & 7

In Joshua 1:9, the Lord said to him, "Be strong and courageous. Don't be afraid. Don't be dismayed for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Can we take that light given to Joshua and use it in our own lives?

What about Jesus' instructions to the wealthy man who came to Him? He first quoted the Law, which applies to everyone. When the man said he'd kept that Law, Jesus proceeded to tell him to sell all he had and give it away. So does that specific word to this man apply to us? Are all of us supposed to be poor?

When Peter came to Jesus and asked him about paying taxes, Jesus instructed him to fish and he'd find two coins in the fish's mouth. Does that mean if we go fishing we'll find money in a fish's mouth?

When is a command to an individual something I can also follow and benefit from? To hear the entire message, we invite you to visit our website and click on the Media Tab. You can listen online, download it to your MP3 player, or podcast.
