Sunday Morning Series - The Laws of Increase - Targeting A Harvest

Text: 2 Corinthians 9:10-11 & Various

Know what you need or desire and be specific.

1.  Sometimes what we think we need is too general.

     A.  I need money.
     B.  Maybe you should be praying, "I need a better job, more customers."

2.  If we don't put thought into our harvest, how can we sow properly?

3.  We don't always sow money. Ruth sowed kindness. Peter sowed the use of his boat.

4.  Harvesting will involve:

     A.  YOUR action
     B.  YOUR faith
     C.  YOUR attention
     D.  YOUR obedience

Ways we can sow:

1.  In my business, we get calls from all over the country. We take those contacts and connect them with businesses in their local area. By doing this, we're sowing customers.

2.  If you share some of the ways you do things to make a job easier, you're sowing new ideas for your own business/life.

3.  By sowing into another ministry and being faithful (no grumbling or complaining), you're sowing for your future ministry.

Sunday Morning Series - The Laws of Increase - Reaping From What We Have Sown

Text:  Genesis 12:1-7 & Various

God tells Abraham to leave Ur of the Chaldees and go to another place that He would show him. Then he says, "To your descendants I will give this land." In order to "go to," one must leave. Sometimes leaving is sowing. If you leave what God tells you to leave, there will be blessing in this life.

Out of the 11 tribes that inherited land, only 5 took a significant portion. Judah conquered their land. Later, David finished the job when he took Jerusalem. Simeon did not take any land. Rather, Judah gave a portion of his land to them since he had more than enough. God always wants to bless you with more than you need, so you can bless other people.

We may start with less than, but move to enough, and then to more than enough.

We reap our harvest through faith. Take this opportunity.

Sunday Morning Series - The Laws of Increase - Learning to Sow

Text:  Genesis 26:1-33

Last week, we saw that we honor God by bringing the tithes into the storehouse. We sow from what is our own into:

God's ministries
God's ministers and God's commands.

Alms, or gifts to the needy, also carry a blessing.

Factors in Sowing

1)  Sow good seed.

     A)  Matthew 13:24-30
     B)  Good seed would be:

           1)  Word that is true and understood.
           2)  Things that are good and desirable.

     C)  You cannot sow what you do not treasure to reap what you cannot measure.

2)  Sow in good soil.

     A)  The Parable of the Sower

           1)  Good soil is that which produces more seed
           2)  And not mesured in the use of the harvest.

     B)  Was Jeremiah good soil?

           1)  When God gave him a word, he gave it to the people.
           2)  Even though no one listened to him, he obeyed God.

     C)  Bad soil is soil that causes the seed sown to become unproductive.

     D)  Good soil in ministry is teaching the Word, exposing darkness, and making disciples to name
           a few attributes.

     E)  Good soil in people is giving to someone else. If you give them something, they will
           increase it.

Sunday Morning Series - The Laws of Increase - Sowing and Reaping

Text:  Luke 5:1-11 & various

Not all seeds have the same yield. They also take varying amounts of time to reach the harvest stage. God causes all things to operate in an orderly way.

1.  Law of Proportion - According to I Corinthians 9:6-8, if you sow sparingly, you'll reap sparingly. If you're not sowing at all, you won't have anything to reap.

2.  Law of Parallels - Genesis 1:11-12 - Seeds produce after their own kind. You have to plant corn to get corn and tomato seeds to get tomatoes.

Money is not the only thing you can sow. You can sow your time, wisdom, understanding, love, friendship, mercy, and so much more. If you're reaping bad stuff, check to see what seed you sowed. Did you sow gossip? Did you sow strife? Start sowing those things you want to reap in your own life.

3.  The Law of Patience - Ecclesiastes 11:1-6 tells us to cast our bread upon the waters, and it will come back after many days. Galatians 6:7-9 exhorts us not to lose heart.

4.  The Law of Possession - We can only sow what belongs to us. I tithe and give back to God what belongs to Him.

If I try to reap what I have not sown, it is stealing. We don't go into a neighbor's yard without permission and take produce from their vegetable garden. In the same way, the tithe belongs to God. Please note: God does not take your finances if you don't tithe, but he can't protect you against the worm, weasel, etc.

You sow into a ministry or a minister. You give alms to the poor. There's a blessing on both, which will discuss later in this series.

This is a very short taste of the message. For the whole meal, please visit our website, and click on the Listen tab. You can listen online, download it to your MP3 player, or podcast FREE.

Sunday Morning Series - The Laws of Increase - How We Honor God

Text:  Various

The same terminology used for the accursed thing in the story of Israel's defeat at Ai is used in relation to the tithe. When we fail to tithe, God doesn't come after us like the mob, but He can't bless us without an opening. God's purpose in the tithe is to bless us.

Deuteronomy 12:8 tells the Israelites (and us) that we're not to keep doing things the way we've been doing them. Everyone was doing what was right in their own eyes. Being a good steward means being obedient.

2 Chronicles 31 - We need to know the purpose of tithing:

1)  Tithes were for the Levites. They had no inheritance among the tribes.

2)  Only the Levites were priests. They were supported by the tithes of the people so they could devote themselves to the law of the Lord. We see a similar parallel in the New Testament when the apostles chose people to handle the daily ministration to widows, so they could spend their time in the Word of God.

In 2 Chronicles 31:21 - Hezekiah:

1)  Destroyed idolatry
2)  Had the people bring the tithe

As a result, he prospered.
