Sunday Morning Service - A Heart Condition - "If It Smells Like..."
Text: Various
The Actions of Pride:
1) Blame others, not themselves.
2) Judge others, not themselves.
3) Angry at others, not themselves.
4) Edify themselves, not others.
5) Amplify themselves, not others.
6) Will gossip about others, but won't gently correct.
7) Eventually, they love themselves, not others
8) 2 Timothy 3:1-9 - Turn away
Today, we'll cover the first two items:
1) Blame
A. I cannot repent until I take responsibility for my actions. Blame only passes on responsibility.
B. Repentance takes on the responsibility. Until we find the cause, no lasting change will occur.
C. Accepting blame for what you did not do or are not responsible for is as useless as passing on blame that belongs to you. This is false humility.
2) Judge
A. Romans 2:1-9 & 14:10-13
B. I can judge actions, words, things that are revealed.
C. I cannot judge what is hidden. Such will be revealed and judged.

Sunday Morning Series - A Heart Condition - What Can He Ask of You?
Text: Various
Requests have a way of stirring up fear, anxiety, lack of confidence, and other negative emotions. God is training us to receive His requests.
In Daniel 2 the king made an unreasonable request. He asked that the wise men tell him his dream, as well as interpret it. It scared most of them, but was seen as an opportunity by others.
In I Samuel 18:20-30 - Saul tells David to kill 100 Philistines, and he would get the king's daughter as his wife. Saul had evil motives. He hoped David would get killed in battle. Even though the intentions were evil, a right heart and attitude made it work for his benefit.
Don't get distracted with the intentions of others from what God wants you to do. When you accomplish what seems impossible, it will put fear in the hearts of those with evil intentions.
There's a difference between a request and the commandments of God. His commands apply to everyone, while a request is directed to a specific individual.
1. Jesus requested that the disciples would follow Him, and He would make them fishers of men. Notice His request was followed by a stated blessing.
2. He asked one man to sell all he had, give it to the poor, and become His disciple.
3. Sometimes He doesn't state the blessing that would follow if the person honored His request. He tells the disciples to give the crowd something to eat. He wanted their obedience, and the blessing would come later.

Sunday Morning Series - A Heart Condition - I Can Do It!
Text: Galatians 4:1 - 5:15
One of the goals of any good mother and father is to raise their children, teach them, and bring them to a place where they can do it themselves. This is also God's goal for us.
Galatians 4:1-7
As long as one is a child, he has no more rights or responsibilities than a slave. As the child grows, he should become an heir by increased maturity and abilities. He is not to become a slave.
Paul uses this example as a comparison between the law and grace. Old Testament believers found favor with God by looking forward to the coming of Messiah. We receive salvation by looking back to what Jesus did on the cross for us.
The intent of the law was to point us to Jesus. The corrupt use of it turned children into slaves. People used the law as a means of salvation when it was designed to show them they could not measure up to God's standard and needed a Savior. There are those in the Old Testament who became sons, but many more became slaves.
We're to walk in FREEDOM - Stand fast liberty (5:1) Yes, it's good not to steal and to not murder, but if we try to obtain salvation via the law (our human effort), we will fail miserably. By trusting in Jesus', we rely on His perfect sacrifice.
Walk in FAITH - Faith working by love. (5:6)
Walk in SERVICE - through love serve one another (5:13)
Walk in LOVE - Love your neighbor as yourself (5:14)

Sunday Morning Series - A Heart Condition - Should I Ever say, "No?"
Text: Galatians 6:1-18
We're focusing on two verses here: 2 and 5. In one, it tells us to bear one another's burdens, while the other says we should bear our own burdens. Contradiction? Let's look at the original language (Greek) and find out.
In Verse 2, the Greek word, "baros," (noun) is used. It's translated as "weight" (figurative in the New Testament), a load, abundance, authority: burden (-some), weight.
In Verse 5, the Greek word, "phortion," is used. It refers to an invoice (as part of freight), i.e. (fig.) a task or service: burden.
On a ship, they have a list of every item going onboard because it can carry only so much weight. Verse 5 - you've been built to carry a certain amount of weight. Carry it or you'll get soft.
There are different types of weights. Some are day-to-day challenges that we are able to handle on our own, while others are so heavy that we must get help. When we move, there's a need for assistance. Big pieces of furniture and heavy boxes require more than one person to transport from the house to the moving van.
So what we are to help with is the heavy burden not the day-to-day or normal stuff of life.
