Sunday Morning Series - A Heart Condition - Being Right in the Eyes of the Lord
Text: I Kings 15:4-5
What we think God will or will not do in any given situation doesn't matter. His Word gives the definitive answer to what actions He will take.
In II Samuel 6, David decides to bring the ark to Jerusalem.
1) A new cart is used. It's obvious David didn't consult the High Priest or the Word of God before selecting this method of transportation.
2) Music is played. While this was nice, it wasn't part of the instructions God gave for moving the ark.
3) There was probably worship and dancing as well.
4) The ark almost falls off the cart.
5) Uzzah steadies it with his hand.
6) The anger of God was aroused, and Uzzah dies.
7) David becomes angry and parks the ark. 2 Samuel 6:9 tells us that David was afraid of the Lord that day, and he said, "How can the ark of the Lord come to me?"
The unknown with the things of God can bring fear, anger, inaction and/or defective belief. David does his homework and finds out that the ark is supposed to be carried on poles by the priests. He follows God's way of doing things and brings the ark to Jerusalem.

Sunday Morning Series - A Heart Condition - The Appeal of Captivity
Text: 2 Chronicles 24
James 1:25 - You not only have to look in the perfect law of liberty, you have to continue in it. Don't be a forgetful hearer but a doer of the Word.
One who is NOT a forgetful hearer is one who continues.
It isn't knowledge that sets us free. It's truth. How do you know if you're a believer? You believe. It's not only that you go to church, pray, or read the Bible. You abide in the Word, and it affects every area of your life.
If we receive knowledge that isn't true, it won't set us free. I grew up in a denomination that tacked on, "if it be thy will," to every prayer for healing. Jesus and the disciples never did that. When we receive teachings that are counter to Biblical truth, it will hinder us.
In 2 Chronicles 24, we read about King Joash. Jehoiada, the priest, saved his life as a baby, and he lived for God all the days of Jehoiada. Does this mean what he did was not genuine or sincere? He actually exceeded Jehoiada in his zeal to restore the house of the Lord. Scripture tells us he "set in his heart" on repairing the temple.
Once Jehoiada died, certain leaders came to him and turned him away from God. The temple that he spent so much time building and caring for no longer was a priority. Idol worship came back into Israel. God sent prophets to warn them, but their message went unheeded.
Zechariah, son of Jehoiada, confronted King Joash. They'd probably know each other most of their lives. The King gave the command for Zechariah to be stoned. Following this action, the Syrian army sent a small force to Israel, and they defeated Israel's bigger army.

Sunday Morning Series - A Heart Condition - Give Attention
Text: Proverbs 4:20-27 and Various
Why are some so changed by the Word of God they hear, while others...not so much?
Proverbs 4:20-27 gives us a command:
Give attention to the Word.
1. Be attentive to what you hear.
2. Be attentive to what you see.
3. Be attentive to what you believe.
We're also told to keep our heart with all diligence.
When the Word of God is revealed to you, the enemy tries to get you to:
1. Doubt its source. Was that really from God?
2. Displace its application (others not you). This message would be so good for my spouse, my kids, my friends.
3. Confuse its meaning. Remember when Jesus told the disciples to beware of the leaven of the scribes and Pharisees? They thought he was saying this because they'd forgotten to bring bread. Jesus had to correct their mistaken interpretation.
This is a brief portion of the message. To hear the entire teaching, please visit our website, and click on the Listen Tab. You can listen online, download it to your MP3 player, or podcast FREE.We welcome your comments.

Sunday Morning Series - A Heart Condition - How to Walk in Love
Text: I Corinthians 13
Love suffers long and is kind. Even when we suffer, we can choose to be kind. We have many opportunities to practice: dealing with customer service people, telemarketers, and driving (a big one for me). You'll get a more favorable outcome when you practice kindness.
How about being kind to yourself? Do you berate yourself when you make a mistake or totally blow it? "Steve, you're so stupid." When you mess up, be kind to yourself.
Love doesn't envy. Be content with what you have, knowing that God will bring increase as you put Him first. When others are blessed, rejoice and be happy for them. Celebrate their successes.
Love doesn't parade itself - doesn't boast. If you do something for others, don't blaze it abroad.
Love doesn't behave rudely. There's no excuse to ever be rude. Spread joy. Love is not selfish but wants to see others grow and prosper.
Love doesn't seek its own. Seek after the well-being of others.
Love is not provoked. When I was a kid, my sister and I didn't get along. I soon learned that if I didn't react, it wasn't fun for her to tickle me. When we're not easily provoked, it usually stops.
Love thinks no evil. Don't think others are out to get me. Keeping an inventory of what others have done to you is another way we think evil.
If you walk in love, pride will not be able to take root.
