Sunday Morning Series - Walking in the Authority of Jesus - Dare to Believe

Text:  2 Kings 5:1-19 & Various

In Mark 1:40-45, Jesus heals the leper. When the leper questions Jesus about His willingness to heal him, Jesus makes it clear that it is His will. Just like the leper, most people approach God not wondering about His ability, but questioning His willingness to heal them.

This story appears in three of the gospels. Most people envision healing like this story - instantaneous. Yet sometimes it's a process because our understanding of healing is incomplete. I'm reminded of Bro. Kenneth Hagin's account of his healing. He believed, but was still sick. The Lord showed him that he believed up to the point he knew. As he gained more insight into the Word of God, he came to the place where he was totally set free.

The enemy uses past failures and/or our not receiving to encourage us to think it is on God's side. He wants to get us into a passive faith. We're just waiting on God to do something. Yet, the woman with the issue of blood was aggressive in her faith. She believed, pushed through the crowd, and touched the hem of Jesus' garment.

In 2 Kings 5:1-19, we have the story of another leper, Naaman, an Assyrian. A young captive girl from Israel made the statement, "If only my master were with the prophet who is in Samaria! For he would heal him of his leprosy."

Was it God's will that the girl should be a captive so she could tell Naaman's wife about the prophet? No, but God uses what the enemy means for evil for our good.

Naaman is faced with a choice: He can do what he's told or walk away and remain a leper. There was some action he had to take in order to receive his healing.

The Bible warns us about false teachers and false doctrine.

False Doctrine

From Jesus -

1.  Matthew 7:13-23 - He says the gate is narrow and few find it. False prophets know what they're doing is wrong.

2.  Matthew 16:6 - Jesus warned His followers to beware of their teaching (the religious leaders of His day). 

From Paul -

1.  I Timothy 1:18-20 - Have faith in a good conscience.

2.  I Timothy 4:1-6 - Some will depart from the faith. They had to be in the faith in order to leave it.

False Beliefs

1.  Mark 5:35-36 - When servants came and informed the man his daughter was dead, Jesus told him not to fear, only believe.

Friends and family will try to discourage you. Doctors reports - don't believe God for good test results. You don't have to believe the report. If it produces fear, it didn't come from God. They may be facts, but not truth. Truth is what the Word says.
