Sunday Morning Series - Walking in the Authority of Jesus - Judgment or Correction
Text: Various
What is the difference between judgment and correction? It's a matter of direction and purpose:
1. Who are my words directed to?
2. What are my words spoke for?
Before you can correct anyone, there must be a relationship. If you are in a store with your children and they're acting up, how would you feel if a stranger took it upon themselves to correct them? They don't know you or your kids or your situation. You wouldn't be happy. The same principle applies to those who want to correct another person without any relationship.
I believe it was John Maxwell who said, "People don't care how much you know until people know you care." We have three types of people in our lives:
1. Those, like Paul, who minister to us.
2. Our peers.
3. Those under us in terms of position or maturity in Christ.
Regarding those under me, we must direct our words to that person.
1. Those who depend on us.
2. Those who have asked for help.
3. If we're are not praying for them, we're not the ones to be correcting them.
To direct our correction to anyone else is to engage in gossip and judgment. The results will be damaging to us, the one needing correction, and those we involve. The goal is always restoration not condemnation.
Paul told those under his ministry in I Corinthians 11:1 to imitate him as he imitates Christ. Other Scripture references include:
1. Philippians 4:9
2. 2 Thessalonians 3:7
3. 2 Timothy 2:23-26
4. Galatians 6:1
5. Matthew 18:15-17

Sunday Morning Service - Pastor Michael Perea
Text: I Kings 18
The prophet, Elijah, experienced a great victory over the prophets of Baal. Jezebel wasn't happy with him and declared she'd have him killed. Times of success are often followed by challenges that seem insurmountable.
It's imperative that we give God the glory during the good seasons. It's tempting to say, "Look what I've done," instead of saying, "Look what the Lord has done through me."
How do we handle it when persecution and hard times follow on the heels of victory? To hear the entire message, please visit our website and click on the Listen Tab. You can listen online or download it to your MP3 player.

Sunday Morning Series - Walking in the Authority of Jesus - When People Don't Act Right
Text: 2 Samuel 2 & 5
God anointed David to be king over all Israel. After many years, Saul is finally dead. One would expect David to be crowned king. After all, the people knew about his exploits and how he killed Goliath. He was both called and qualified to be their king.
Judah made him king, but Abner crowned Saul's only remaining son, Ishbosheth, king of the other tribes. Kings were expected to go into battle and protect their people. Saul didn't bring him to any of their confrontations with the enemy. His name means, "A man of shame." In I Chronicles, he's called, "Esh-baal," or "A man of Baal."
David received a promise from God, but it didn't immediately change his reality. He could have easily become frustrated. Last week, we learned that frustration is self-centeredness wearing a mask of submission. He could have tried to take matters into his own hands, but he didn't.
For 7 1/2 years, David ruled Judah. He waited patiently as God prepared him to step fully into his kingship. Finally, all the tribes of Israel came to David and asked him to be their king. Instead of ruling from Hebron, David and all the tribes defeated those holding Jerusalem, which became the new capital.
Just like David, God makes promises to us. Often our reality doesn't match up with our calling. Seek God every step of the way, and don't do what seems obvious.
Frustrated people become DIRE:
D demanding - They even become demanding with God.
I impatient - I want it now.
R rude - They get nasty with others who they think are in their way.
E egotistical - It's all about what I want.
Frustration is a temporary emotion, but repeated incidents can lead to pride and make us unteachable. Don't allow expectations or delays in the fulfillment of God's promises make you frustrated. Wait patiently, and God will bring it to pass.

Sunday Morning Series - Walking in The Authority of Jesus - A Hidden Enemy
Text: I Samuel 27 - 28
David sought refuge among the Philistines from Saul's relentless attempts on his life. There's no record in the Bible about David's motives. Did God send him there or was he simply frustrated?
God chose Saul to be king over Israel and sent David to assist him. Saul wasn't prepared and viewed David as an enemy. By rejecting David and seeking to kill him, he lost David and all the men he would have trained as warriors. When faced with the threat of a Philistine attack, Saul's desperate for God's guidance.
Meanwhile, David is now put in a compromising situation. He's told Philistine King Achish that he's been raiding parts of Israel when he's actually going after Israel's enemies. King Achish wants David to fight with him against Israel. What makes a situation frustrating?
1) An inability to be removed.
2) A response or compliance we don't feel/want.
3) An inner voice telling us things could be better.
Frustration is merely self-centeredness wearing a mask of submission. When we're frustrated, we're operating outside of love.
When Saul's efforts to get direction from God fail, he resorts to using a medium. Psalms 66:18 says, "If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear." He disguises himself and goes to her for a seance to contact the deceased prophet, Samuel.
There's much debate over whether she actually brings back Samuel or if it's a familiar spirit. When people go to a medium, they usually speak good things. Samuel tells Saul God is now his enemy because he didn't obey God concerning Amalek. He tells Saul that he and his sons will die in battle - definitely not good news.
Frustration isn't a sign that we are in the wrong place. Rather it shows us we are not in the right mindset to grow. Left unchecked, it will separate us from an authority we were intended to grow under. Frustration involves bottling up our feelings instead of dealing with the situation in a godly way. If we're frustrated, we won't grow in the situation.
