Sunday Morning Series - Resurrection Week - 2018 - Capernaum

Text:  Matthew 4:13-20

Jesus lived in Capernaum. It is where He recruited Peter, James, and John as His disciples. While there, He healed Peter's mother-in-law, and the entire city gathered, bringing those individuals who were sick and demon possessed. Many miracles occurred there. All was well until Jesus forgave the paralytic his sins. They questioned His ability to do this even though He healed the man.

He told them if the works He'd done there had been done in Sodom and Gomorrah, they would have repented. Therefore, they faced greater judgment because of their rejection.

Sunday Morning Series - Having Faith in Your Prayers - Pray What You Know

Text: Proverbs 18:22 and various

People pray the promises of God, and many times they do it wrong. For example, Proverbs 18:22 talks about he who finds a wife finds a good thing. They think God has a certain person picked out for them, and someday their paths will cross. There's nothing in the Word of God that says this. Not everyone has to get married.

The fact that it says, "He who FINDS a wife..." indicates there's something a man has to do. If that's your desire (man or woman), then you need to:

1.  Be joyful.
2.  Be interesting.
3.  Be content
4.  Be unselfish
5.  Be somewhere between obsessed and independent

Palm Sunday Afternoon - Annual Easter Egg Hunt!

It's almost here! On Sunday, 3/25/19, at 2:00 PM, there will be an Easter Egg Hunt, games, and so much more for kids. This is a free event, but we're asking people to register their children so we can make adequate preparations. So far, we have 130 children registered, but there's room for more.

Sunday Morning Service - Having Faith in Your Prayers - What's Your Limit

Text:  2 Peter 1:1-15

Introduction

2 Peter 1:1-4 - Exceedingly great and precious promises

"His Divine power..." This comes from Him. He has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness.

Note: The Greek word used for "has given" is not from Didomai, which is the simple "to give." It comes from doreo, which means to grant or bestow. This is stronger, more expressive word.

This about the simple word meaning "to give," as someone handing you a $20.00 bill. Once you've spent it, it's gone. The word, doreo, is like someone giving you access to their financial accounts. In order to take advantage of this access, you must do something: write a check, go to the bank, or whatever else is required to get the cash.

God has given us access to all things that pertain to life and godliness. What is going on in your life that is not like God?

Is God depressed?
Is God poor?
Is God lonely?

Sunday Morning Series - Having Faith in Your Prayers, A Promise of Growth

Text:  Ephesians 4:1-24

The key to most victories needed in life is the growth of our spirit.

This book was written to believers, exhorting them to walk worthy of their calling. The word, "Beseech," is the Greek word, "parakaleo," to come alongside and plead or command. This is not a commandment involved in our salvation, but one for our spiritual growth. Until you are born again, spiritual growth is impossible.

*The list in Ephesians 1-6 isn't about refraining from certain actions but rather of attitudes to maintain.

Grace gift - Ephesians 4:7-16

"To each one..." - Each of us (those born again have been given a grace gift.

"To some..." - Note those gifts were for some (not all). Some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers.

Regarding these five gifts, their purpose of equipping believers for the ministry.

What the enemy does to keep us from spiritual growth:

1.  Distracting - teachings (from twinkies to poison - not all is poison). Some teachings are like spiritual junk food. They have no nutritional value for growth. Other teachings are downright poisonous and can destroy you.

2.  Not speaking the truth or speaking the truth in love.

3.  Keeping us from being knit together. We all have character flaws, but we should still receive the gifting within each other. I might not want to emulate how a person walks, but they might have a teaching gift I need to receive.

4.  Cutting us off from the other parts of the body. Many have abandoned gathering together for worship, prayer, and the Word, thus cutting themselves off from valuable opportunities for growth. Each of us has a gift to benefit others in the Body of Christ. We are hindering our own growth when we don't come together.
