Sunday Morning Series - The Need for Faithfulness
Text: I Samuel 13 and 15
Samuel instructed Saul to wait for him to perform the sacrifice before going into battle. There were only 600 men with Saul, while the Philistines had 30,000 chariots, 6,000 horsemen, and so many individuals they couldn't be counted. When Samuel didn't arrive at the appointed time, Saul's men started leaving.
Saul didn't obey and did the sacrifice himself. Right after he did that, Samuel came and asked, "What have you done?" Prepared people perform. Unprepared people explain. They have many excuses. What is unfaithful in God's eyes can usually be viewed as faithful in man's.
The will of God was for Saul to win the battle. Notice the people were scattering, but Saul was still there. Although he was victorious in battle doesn't mean things were right. Operating in this area, all we see is that something needs to be done, not what God wants done.

Sunday Morning Series - The Need For Faithfulness - Becoming Unfaithful
Text: Luke 10:3-42
What reasons do we give for changes in our faithfulness?
1. Results - We don't see things getting better.
2. How I'm received - Are people welcoming our ministry?
3. Return - Are my efforts better put somewhere else?
4. Comparison with others - Are others more successful than us?
Martha, Mary, and Lazarus were loved by Jesus. There aren't many places where this is expressed. Martha welcomed Jesus into her home for the purpose of teaching people.
As she was working by herself to prepare a meal, she got so caught up in what she was doing that she interrupted Jesus' teaching to express her displeasure that her sister wasn't helping.
Martha type:
1. Outwardly serving
2. Inwardly criticizing
3. Boldly accusing

Sunday Morning Series - The Need For Faithfulness - Doing the Will of God
Text: Matthew 21:23-46
The Will of the Father
Jesus told a parable of a father and two sons. He told the first son to go work, but he refused. The son was serving another master. Something else was more important than his father's will. Perhaps he wanted to go to a party or a sporting event. Later, he regretted his answer and obeyed the father's command.
The second son readily agreed to do the father's bidding. Yet, he didn't follow through. He served another master that took precedence over his father's will.
Perhaps we're enthusiastic at first, but thoughts come to us about why we shouldn't fulfill our commitment. We lose interest or become distracted.
Which one of these sons was faithful? Most Christians confuse faithfulness with diligence. We can be busy with many things, even good things, but not be doing what God called us to do. We can be diligent without being faithful, we we can't be faithful without diligence.
Jesus many times pointed out a person's faithfulness. He never mentioned it concerning these two sons. Neither of them put the father's will ahead of their own desires. Faithful people stay with it even when they aren't in the mood.
