Sunday Morning Series - Boundaries - The Attacks Upon Us
Text: II Chronicles 14:1 - 16:14
The enemy doesn't care if we go to the right or the left as long as we are off God's path.
King Asa, of Judah, had a father and grandfather (Solomon), who brought idolatry into the nation. However, Asa did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. He removed the altars and high places from all the cities of Judah.
There was no war during these years, but he still prepared the people and trained them to fight. He knew that eventually an enemy would attack.
The devil will try to weaken you and pull you back from your purpose. He does this three ways:
1. Distraction
2. Outright attack
3. Join us next week for this one.
Asa had a loyal or perfect heart all his days. He was obedient to the Lord. However, he strayed from the path at some point and resisted correction.

Sunday Morning Series - Boundaries - The Rejection of Wisdom
Text: I Kings 12:1-24
After King Solomon died, his son, Rehoboam, took over. While Solomon was alive, he built the temple and many other buildings. The people had to devote a month of their year to working on his projects, as well as paying heavy taxes to fund them.
The people from the northern tribes approached Rehoboam and requested that he ease their burden. Rehoboam asked his father's counselors for advice, and they told him to listen to the people. They said if he would serve the people now, they would serve him in the future.
Rehoboam wasn't satisfied with their answer and went to his friends. They gave him the opposite advice, telling him to increase the people's burdens. He tossed aside the wise advice of the elder counselors and did what his peers suggested.
His foolishness resulted in the country being split. The people refused to acknowledge him as their king.
Do we seek wise counsel and heed it? What are some of the reasons it's rejected? To hear the entire message, please visit our website, and click on the Media Tab. You can listen online, download it to your MP3 player, or podcast.

Sunday Morning Series - Boundaries - Self Limitations
Text: I Samuel 14:1-23, Joshua 1:1-9
Have you ever had a room or place in your house you wouldn't or couldn't enter? What is it that started that feeling? A story? A sound? A perception?
Whatever it is or was it ignited fear in us, which always leads to limited action or even complete inaction.
When Moses died, God informed Joshua that he would lead the Children of Israel into the Promised Land. He instructed Joshua to be strong and of good courage, that He (God) would be with him.
Where do self-imposed boundaries originate?
1. Perceptions - what other people think
2. Ignorance
3. Guilt - What we think is in the mind of others. Will people disapprove of our actions? For example, if a widow or widower marries soon after their loved one passes away, will that be viewed in a negative light?
4. Self-confidence - If I'm not confident, I'll only do so much.
What limitations have you imposed on yourself that God has not? To hear the entire message, please visit our website and click on the Media Tab. You can listen online, download it to your MP3 player, or podcast.

Sunday Morning Series - Boundaries - The Unusual
Text: Acts 19:1-20
Paul asks the believers if they'd received the Holy Spirit since they believed. There's controversy today with many saying you receive the Holy Spirit when you receive Jesus as your Savior. In Acts 2, those who were already believers gathered in the Upper Room to await the coming of the Holy Spirit. The scriptures plainly teach there's an infilling that occurs after salvation. The evidence of this infilling is speaking in tongues.
Paul made it clear that he spoke in tongues. There is a difference between the infilling of the Holy Spirit and the gift of tongues, listed as a gift of the Holy Spirit.
1. The first is your prayer language and an empowerment for ministry. We often don't know how to pray, but the Holy Spirit can pray the perfect prayer through us.
2. The gift of tongues operates in the assembly and is accompanied by the gift of interpretation of tongues. This may be either a known language the speaker does not know or understand or an unknown tongue. There are many instances where an unbeliever hears a message from God or hears Him praised in his native language. Again, in Acts 2, those who heard the believers speaking in tongues recognized these unlearned people were praising God in a language they did not know, but the hearers understood.
When people started speaking evil of the way, Paul departed from them and withdrew the disciples. He didn't argue or waste time with those who hardened their hearts.
In Acts 19:11-12, it states, "Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul." (Verse 11) Handkerchiefs and aprons were brought and the anointing from Paul went into them. They were brought to those who were homebound, frail, and unable to travel. The scriptures state that the illnesses were caused by demons. The anointing freed them, and they were permanently cured.
Many people do this today, yet this was not a common practice. Scripture calls it, "unusual."
In Acts 19:13-20, we hear about some itinerant Jewish exorcists deciding to copy Jesus and Paul. The seven sons of Sceva (sons of a Jewish high priest) were not the only ones going about performing exorcisms. These men overstepped their boundaries and ended up being attacked and fleeing from the demonized person.
