Sunday Morning Series - Enduring Change - Why Have I Not Been Able To..."

Text:  Mark 9:1-29

Just because you have something in your life like sickness doesn't mean God wants you to have it. The man at the pool of Bethesda had a condition for 38 years. When Jesus came on the scene, it was gone in an instant.

In Mark 9:14-27, a boy is brought to Jesus because the disciples failed in their ministry to him. Jesus told the father, "If you can believe..." The man cries out, "Lord, I believe help thou my unbelief." Did you know you can both believe and not believe at the same time? Bro. Hagin once said, "You can believe in your heart and have doubts in your head."

The face this boy is sick or possessed does not demonstrate the will of God. Neither does the inability of the disciples to change the situation. If you came to believe that it did, your belief would be based on a false conclusion.

The disciples later asked Jesus why they couldn't cast out the demon. Jesus answered by pointing to...

1.  Unbelief - If you just read the account in Mark, you would not get this.

2.  Different kinds

3.  Prayer and fasting

There are no prayer and fasting demons. Demons submit to the name of Jesus. The one who is the most submitted wins. Are you submitted to God? Unbelief is a flesh problem. We are most susceptible to doubt and unbelief when our direction starts in our minds and guides our spirits. We are least susceptible when our direction starts in our spirit and guides our mind.

Kelly Lynnes has served the body of Christ for over 25 years as an associate pastor,Bible Institute director and itinerant minister. The heartbeat of his ministry is to help believers understand who they are in Christ and take their God-appointed place in His Body.

Serving as an assistant pastor under Pastors Mac and Lynne Hammond at Living Word Christian Center in Minneapolis, MN in the 1990's, Kelly received additional hands-on training in prayer. He led small prayer groups, trained pray-ers through weekly teaching, and ministered at annual Prayer Conferences. 'It was my prayer boot camp," he says. "It's where I learned to cooperate with the Holy Spirit in prayer and work in the spirit with other believers."

Gina Lynnes is a teacher and author, who has ministered across the US and abroad. Gina's ministry training began under Kenneth and Gloria Copeland when she became an editor for their publications in 1984. A few years later,she began editing for Lynne Hammond as well. Working with Lynne both in print and in prayer lifted her understanding of prayers to a whole new level. Gina became an associate pastor at Eagle Mountain International Church, teaching prayer school, developing prayer groups, and leaders.

Sunday Morning Series - Enduring Grace - I Do and I Don't

Text:  John 5:1-18

At the pool of Bethesda, a person's condition did not matter. What mattered was who was paying attention.

Like so many people, the man Jesus approached believed something could happen, but he didn't have much expectation that it would happen to him. He'd been in this condition for 38 long years.

1.  He wants to get into the pool to be healed.

2.  But says he doesn't expect to be the first in.

Jesus doesn't assume by our actions that we desire to be healed but by obedience to His commands (even if the actions are of great inconvenience). There were many people at the pool, but he went to this man. He's not attracted by need but by faith.

He asks the man, "Do you want to be made well?" The simple answer is, "Yes," or "No." Instead, the man gives him a long story about how he doesn't have anyone to help him get into the pool. Someone always gets in before him. After a long time of not receiving what we hope for, our expectation of it diminishes.

Jesus changes the method, giving the man fresh expectation. He tells him to rise, take up his bed, and walk. The man is completely healed.
