Text: II Samuel 2
We're returning to the story of David. Samuel anointed him King of Israel as a youth, but there was a gap between the time of the promise and its fulfillment.
Now, the gap is closing. After Saul's death, David asks God for direction. God instructs him to go to Hebron. There he is anointed king over the house of Judah only.
While becoming King of Judah was a step in the right direction and narrowed the gap between the promise and the fulfillment, events were still not lining up. He was King of Judah for seven years before the situation changed. David could have switched his hope and faith from God to Israel that they would now make him king, but he didn't try to make it happen.
In our lives, it's a temptation to switch our hope and faith from God to doctors, a job, a spouse, or some other resource. Our prayers are partially answered, but we're short of total fulfillment of God's promises. Stay with God, hold fast the confession of your hope, and do not waver!
