Sunday Morning Series - The Wisdom of God - Imitation is Not the Real Thing
Text: Mark 5:25-34
The story of the woman with the issue of blood has so much to teach us. All of her efforts to find a solution to her problem failed.
The scripture doesn't tell us how she found out about Jesus, but most likely she heard someone talking about Him and the miracles He performed. Ah, but she had a major difficulty. She could not ask Him to lay hands on her because she was unclean. After pondering this issue, she told herself if she could just touch the hem of His garment she'd be healed.
She developed her belief and faith, and put her plan into action. While people can give the report, teaching, and testimony of what Jesus has done, it is the Holy Spirit who speaks revelation to our spirit. The woman thought about all she'd heard concerning Jesus and what it could mean for her. She then acted on that belief.
Here are the steps she took:
She heard.
She said.
She did.
She wasn't a copycat. So many people hear that someone did a certain thing, and they do it, hoping for the same result. Action by itself won't work. When she touched the hem of His garment, healing power went out of Him. Her confidence (belief) and action (faith) made the connection.

Sunday Morning Series - Acts - The Church Age Begins - Do You Hear What I Hear?
Text: Luke 1 and 2
Preparation leads to awesome moments. We've had revelation spoken to us, but didn't instantly obey. Delay turns awesome moments into awkward ones.
Expecting the man of God to do a certain thing can throw us off course when we're told to do something. Think about Naaman, who had leprosy. He went to the prophet and was instructed to wash in the Jordan River. It wasn't what he wanted, but at the urging of his servant, he obeyed and was healed.
Revelation and wisdom are the same thing. God's revelation is His wisdom. It doesn't need to make sense. When the angel appeared to Mary and told her she was going to have the Messiah, she had questions. God is alright with us having questions. She quickly came into agreement with the message. What the angel pronounced did not make sense to her natural mind.
Joseph also had a problem. The woman he was betrothed to marry was pregnant. People would think the worst of them. Yet, he obeys when the angel appears to him in a dream and instructs him to take Mary as his wife.
Where does wisdom/revelation come from?
1) Angels
2) Messengers - godly people
3) The Holy Spirit
Beware, because just as there is genuine revelation/wisdom there is also a false wisdom. There are some signs to watch out for:
1) Does it compromise the Word?
2) Does it bring fear?
3) Does it yield dissension, anger, and separation?
4) Does it rob you of your joy?

Quotable Quotes
"If we could condense all the truths of Christmas into only three words, these would be the words: "God with us." We tend to focus our attention at Christmas on the infancy of Christ. The greater truth of the holiday is His deity. More astonishing than a baby in the manger is the truth that this promised baby is the omnipotent Creator of the heavens and the earth!" - John MacArthur

Sunday Morning Series - The Wisdom of God, Utilizing the Power of Revelation
Text: John 5:1-16, John 4:46-54, Luke 17:11-19
We've heard this story many times. The man crippled for 38 years waits by the Pool of Bethesda for an angel to stir the waters. The obvious solution to his problem is: get in the water first. Unfortunately, he has no one to help him, and someone always beats him to it.
Jesus comes along and gives him wisdom. First, He asks the man if he wants to be healed. The man informs him that there's no one to help him get into the pool. He's focused on the pool, not Jesus. Obvious solutions often distract us from what we need to do.
The Lord tells him to:
1) Arise
2) Talk up his bed
3) And walk.
The man obeys, and he is healed.
Needs are easy to see.
Problems are easy to find.
Solutions are harder to discover.
Reasons for failure are well pronounced.

Sunday Morning Series - The Wisdom of God - The Power of Revelation
Text 2 Kings 3:1-9 & various
Jehoshaphat, King of Judah, was a decent king, but bad associations caused him a lot of trouble. He hung out with the evil king of Israel. They decided to attack Moab, but didn't ask God about their plan. The choices they made led them through an area that was low on resources, and they didn't bring enough provisions to sustain the army.
Many times Christians make decisions without asking God. When they get into trouble, they blame Him. Just because someone is in leadership doesn't mean God put them there. People put them there.
Finally, they call for Elisha who was close by. Elisha comes only because of Jehoshaphat. He regarded his presence but not his judgment.
Elisha calls for a musician, and God's revelation comes to him. Often we do not hear from God because other things block His voice or dull our hearing. The music we listen to, the company we keep, the lack of prayer, etc. can all affect us.
A word comes from the Lord. They are told to dig ditches, and the valley would be filled with water. They had to DO something. Did you ever notice in scripture how people were told to do something unusual or to repeat a previously unsuccessful action. The disciples were told to cast their nets on the other side of the boat. This made no sense to them since they'd been fishing all night. Yet, when they obeyed, they caught many fish.
Revelation comes to our spirits not to our heads. When we filter revelation through our minds, reasoning can come in and corrupt it.
There are 5 things we must do when revelation is given in order to see the end result. We're using the acronym: SHAPE.
1) Seek it - Ask God for revelation.
2) Hear - not just with your physical ears but with your spiritual ears.
3) Accept it. We don't always like the revelation we get.
4) Perform it. Obey the word of the Lord.
5) Endure - Persevere. The road isn't always easy, and many obstacles may be in your path.

Sunday Morning Series - The Wisdom of God - The Make Up of the Foolish
Text: Genesis 3:1-7 and Various
There are four pillars in the Wisdom of God:
1. Knowledge of God
2. The Fear of the Lord (obedience)
3. Discerning what is valuable
4. God-given Understanding or revelation
Walking in less than wisdom:
1. The Simple
A. They may have some knowledge but may or may not discern what is of value.
B. If those who are simple obey God, they'll usually stay out of trouble.
2. The Foolish
A. They may have some knowledge, but don't care where it comes from as long as they agree with it.
B. They walk by the light of feelings and experiences, not by the Word of God. Note: I read an article that said rich people say what they feel 10% of the time. Poor people say what they feel 85% of the time.
C. They have no idea what has value.
D. In Luke 24:15, we see people reasoning. Without revelation, we rely on reasoning.
1. When Peter declared that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the living God, he wasn't reasoning. He received revelation.
3. The Scornful
A. They walk against wisdom regardless of signs, wonders, and miracles.
B. Regardless of the light of revelation.
C. They will stand against it to protect what they have and might lose.
Understanding comes by revelation. The enemy comes to steal the Word sown and confuse the revelation we have through reasoning. Reasoning in your heart is warring against revelation. Revelation is received, while reasoning is hard work.

Sunday Morning Series - The Wisdom of God - Don't be Foolish
Text: Matthew 7:15-29, Mark 9:14-30, Luke 11:37-54
According to scripture, there are four types of people:
Wise
Simple
Foolish
Scornful
A foolish person says what they feel. They may hear wisdom, but they do not apply it. A good example of this is found in the story of the wise man and the foolish man. One built his house on solid rock, and it withstood a great storm. The foolish man built upon the sand. He did not look ahead and plan for the likelihood of a storm. His house was destroyed.
A wise person is skilled in what they do. They pursue wisdom and understanding on how to apply it to their lives.
A foolish person does what he feels is right. The wise person does what he knows is right.
The fool has no eye for the future. They live in the now.
The fool is not concerned with their lack of knowledge, understanding or discernment. "What I have is good enough for me."
Knowledge, understanding, and discernment are available to all. There is no special call, gift, or anointing to obtain these, just a command to pursue them.

Sunday Morning Series - The Wisdom of God - Don't Be Simple
Text: Matthew 16:3-12, John 8:1-11
When Joe McGee was with us, he spoke on the four types of people discussed in Proverbs 1:20-22:
1. Wise - They know what is right and correct through understanding, and are able to anticipate what will come.
2. Simple - Sometimes discern what is right and correct, but lack the understanding as to why.
3. Foolish - Unable to discern right from wrong and don't care to until harm comes to them.
4. Scornful - Despise what is proved to be right, good, and beneficial.
Wisdom contains understanding, and understanding contains discernment. Discernment is the distinguishing of what has value.
In Matthew 16:3-12, Jesus warned the disciples of the leaven of the Pharisees. They immediately thought it was because they'd forgotten to take bread. He reminded them of how he'd fed the 5,000 and the 4,000 on another occasion. Once they had the correct understanding, they came to a correct conclusion. He was talking about the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Sunday Series - The Wisdom of God - The Things That Corrupt
Text: Proverbs 5 & 6
The time to gain favor is to get it before you need it. Peace, pleasantness, and happiness will be found in the ways of wisdom.
What are the things that bring corruption into our lives:
A. Bad People
The proverb warns young men not to get involved with and to stay far away from seducing women. The same warning can apply to young women as well. If not you get involved on three levels.
1. Physical - The Scriptures talk about the two becoming one flesh. Engaging in physical intimacy creates a bond.
2. Emotional - Our souls become entangled.
3. Spiritual - This is a deep connection that's very hard to break if it's wrong.
What happens when we get this involved:
1. We give up our honor.
2. We give up years of our life.
3. We give up our wealth.
4. We give up our health.
A prime example of this is Samson (Judges 16:1-21). He went against sound wisdom and got involved with Philistine women, the most famous was Delilah.
B. Bad Promises
Proverbs 6:1-5 warns us against guaranteeing or co-signing loans for friends. This is a good way to destroy a friendship and get into a financial bind.
C. Bad Pursuits
Proverbs 6:6-35 talks about taking lessons from the ant. God wants us to plan ahead and work each day with the future in view. Beware of too much non-productive time.

Sunday Morning Series - The Wisdom of God - The Guidance of Wisdom
Text: Proverbs 3
Proverbs 3:5-12 has three conditions before getting to the promise of God directing our paths:
1) Trust in the Lord with all your heart.
2) Lean not to your own understanding.
3) In all of your ways acknowledge Him...
and He shall direct your paths.
We're also told that following God's way will be health to our flesh and strength to our bones.
What are the benefits? Proverbs 3:13-26
1) Happy is the person who finds wisdom. Happiness doesn't come from "stuff."
2) Length of day and long life.
3) Riches and honor.
With Daniel, we see the wisdom of God in action. When the king ordered all the wise men to be put to death, Daniel made a request. He'd developed a trust based on wisdom with Arioch. The man told him what was happening, and Daniel found favor with him. One thing we see here: Wisdom makes a request. Foolishness makes a demand.

Sunday Morning Series - The Wisdom of God - Despising Wisdom
Text: Proverbs 4
What does wisdom do?
1) It will promote us.
2) It will bring us honor.
3) Give us an ornament of grace for our heads
4) A crown of glory
We can be taught the right way, and be lead in the right paths, but the steps of our walk are our own.
1) Our walk can be one that is not hindered.
2) We can run and not stumble.
3) It all depends on how we respond to wisdom when we hear it. Will we hold onto it and use it or reject it?
Proverbs 4:14-27 tells us to avoid evil.
How do we stay free from bad stuff?
1) Do not enter the path of the wicked.
2) Avoid it.
3) Turn away from it.
If we're driving a car, we stay away from flooded or dangerous roads. If we encounter an obstacle on the road such as a deer, we avoid hitting or running over it. If we happen to see something bad, we turn away from it and not allow our eyes to keep looking at it. We can save ourselves a lot of trouble by following this guidance: Do not enter, avoid, and turn away.
How do we despise the wisdom of God?
1) We hear it, but don't recognize it.
2) Pretend it is wise only to talk it down later. If we don't understand, ask questions!
3) Give in to a deceitful mouth and separate yourself from the life force God has given you.
This is only a small sampling of the message. We encourage you to visit our website, and click on the Listen tab. You have the option of listening online, downloading it to your MP3 player, or podcasting FREE.

Sunday Morning Series - The Wisdom of God - The Value of Wisdom
Text: Proverbs 2
Why do we need discretion to preserve us and understanding to keep us if nothing happens to us that God doesn't allow? There's evil in the world, and God gives us wisdom on how to avoid harmful situations or paths that will lead to destruction.
In I Kings 10:1-5, we have the story of the Queen of Sheba coming to see Solomon. She'd heard about his wisdom and wanted to see if it was true. He answered all of her questions. Unlike some people today, he had a thorough understanding of the responses he gave to her.
While there, the Queen of Sheba noted his servants and the riches of his house. Like her, people not only listen to our words but also observe our lives.
When she recognized his wisdom, she:
Rejoiced
Received
Rewarded
She gave Solomon great gifts that amounted to $20 million in that day. Others also brought Solomon gifts after hearing his wisdom.
Unfortunately, Solomon turned away from wisdom. In I Kings 10:26-29, we see he purchased horses from Egypt. He also married many wives and sought after wealth. He ended up turning to other gods and leading the nation into idolatry.
Beware of multiplying wars, women, and wealth. Receive what is sent, pursue what we are told to, and let the rest come to you.

Sunday Morning Series - The Wisdom of God - The Call of Wisdom
Text: Proverbs 1
Know - wisdom and instruction.
Perceive the words of understanding.
Receive the instruction of wisdom.
Scripture tells us the wise will hear and increase in learning. They will attain wise counsel. The opposite is true of fools. They despise wisdom and instruction.
Notice that wisdom calls aloud outside; she raises her voice in the open square. There is no shame associated with wisdom. The covert nature of foolishness is compared to wisdom's out-in-the-open approach.
Verse 7 promises: "I will make my words known to you." This is a good verse to put on your refrigerator!
A) But there are those who refuse
B) Disregard and
C) Disdain wisdom's words
In I Kings 12:1-7, we have the story of Solomon's son, Rehoboam. The people come to him, asking for relief from the heavy workload and taxes. Rehoboam consults with Solomon's counselors. Now, if wise Solomon had counselors, you know they're topnotch. They advise him to speak softly to the people and be nice to them. Well, he's not content with that advice and goes to his friends. They tell him just the opposite. Unfortunately, he heeds their counsel instead of Solomon's advisors.
Rehoboam ends up infuriating the people and losing most of the nation. After that, the nation was never unified.

Sunday Morning Series - The Wisdom of God - Obtaining Godly Counsel
Text: 2 Samuel 16:15 - 17:23
Some of us own a GPS unit for our cars. Isn't it nice that we can avoid traffic jams and get back on course if we make a wrong turn? Wisdom is like that GPS. It sees where a decision now will lead us. Possible changes in direction can help us avoid troubles in life.
In order for wise counsel to work in my life, I must:
1) value it.
2) get it.
3) recognize it.
4) honor it.
5) yield to it.
Wisdom also comes as correction. It's more important than diligence. We can be diligent and be going in the wrong direction.
In 2 Samuel 16:15-23, we have the story about Ahithophel giving counsel to Absalom, who usurped his father, David's, throne. An interesting fact: Ahithophel was Bathsheba's grandfather. Was his counsel to Absalom wise? Yes. Was it moral? No. It was more for the purpose of alienating father and son and then establishing Absalom as ruler.
There is a worldly wisdom that is sufficient to get the job done, but is lacking in morals. Schools teach situational ethics, which give you two possible scenarios: someone dies or it's necessary to lie, cheat, steal, etc. They do not factor in God's provision or wisdom.
Application: I have need of correction. How I respond to it will determine my future even if it doesn't seem like much at the time.

Volunteers Needed!
We're in need of volunteers for the Greeter Team.
Description
1. Welcome both members and visitors to our church.
2. Give visitors welcome packet, tell them where restrooms are located, where they can get water, and direct them to the Children's Church Auditorium if they have children.
3. Greeters need to be at the door no later than 9:45 A.M., preferably 9:30 A.M.
4. Currently, we have two greeters and alternate months. If we had six people helping out, we could reduce that to two months per year each. That's between 8-10 Sundays a year.
5. If you're interested and serious about the commitment, please see Susan.
