Sunday Morning Series - Learn to Discern - What We Practice We Perfect

Text:  I Samuel 13 and 15

There are some things we are practicing and getting perfect - good and bad. Prepared people perform, while unprepared people explain.

When King Saul took it upon himself to offer sacrifices instead of waiting for the prophet, Samuel, he was disobeying God. A victory was still produced, but just because things worked doesn't mean things were right. Formulas produce partial obedience. Operating in this area, all we see is that something needs to be done. Samuel tells him that obedience is better than sacrifice.

When the teachings of God's Word become formulas we perform instead of principles we live by, the power will depart. Don't get caught up in wins and losses. If God's principles are not honored, the way is wrong.

Saul became good at making excuses for his lack of obedience. What things have you become good at that you really shouldn't be?

Lying?
Finding comfort in the wrong things - drinking, smoking, sex outside of marriage?
Cussing when a hammer meets your thumb?

Pastor Steve also talked about God's purpose for sex and the reasons for purity.
