Text: Luke 5:1-11
In Luke 5:1-11, we have the story of Jesus using Peter's boat with his permission and later telling him to let down his nets.
Jesus' first request was for permission to use Peter's boat. This had no promise of a harvest. Rather, He was asking for a favor. Peter submits to the request seemingly out of kindness.
The next request is for Peter to launch out into the deep and let down his nets for a catch. Peter protests some but then partially obeys. It's obvious he didn't have high expectations of getting a big catch. Instead of putting down his nets (plural), he lets down a net (singular).
If Peter had failed to do the first request, he would have received nothing. In partially doing both, he received the harvest although some of it was likely lost.
Receiving from Authority is different than receiving from power. In power, complete obedience is necessary before the connection is made. In authority, partial obedience still can result in at least a partial harvest.
