Definition: Kindness - chrestotes - to show kindness, or to be friendly.
One scholar noted "when the word chrestotes (kindness) is applied to inter-human relationships, it conveys the idea of being adaptable to others." It's not an attitude of, "this is how I am, accept it." Rather, it's the willingness to change and adapt to the needs of people around you.
This attitude was modeled by Jesus. He was teaching and ministering to the multitudes. No doubt, He became tired and needed rest. They go to a quiet place only to find the crowds have arrived there ahead of them. Jesus is moved with compassion and puts aside His need for rest to minister to the people.
Moses faced constant complaining and murmuring from the Israelites. Yet he stuck it out with them for 40 years.
When we move into unkindness, we lose compassion. The two go together. Scripture tells us that love suffers long and is kind. Make sure your words are not filled with sarcasm, venom, and bitterness. "Say what you mean, mean what you say, but don't say it mean."
