Text: Matthew 16:13-28 and Various
Everything we do has a beginning - both good and bad things. However, there's a trigger that starts it off.
Jesus asks the disciples, "Who do people say that I am?" Some said He was Elijah. Others thought He was John he Baptist or one of the prophets. The Lord gets more specific and asks them what they thought. Simon Peter declares that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God.
Right after that declaration, Jesus began teaching them about the things He must suffer and that He would rise on the third day. Until they got the revelation that Jesus was the Messiah, He couldn't teach them about this subject.
The disciples don't "get it." Their eyes are fixed on Jesus as the king, the deliverer of Israel. They can't wrap their brains around suffering and the resurrection. Yet, fear keeps them from asking Jesus what He means.
What recent triggers have come to you? What did they begin in your life - something good or something bad?
