Sunday Morning Series - Enduring Change - The Root of Bitterness
Text: I Samuel 18:1-30
Saul was anointed as king of Israel by God and given an assignment. He was to defeat the Philistines and wipe out the last of the giants. God brought people alongside to help him accomplish the calling on his life.
At first, Saul developed a strong bond with David. However, things changed when he heard the people singing about how Saul killed thousands but David killed ten thousands. Saul felt threatened and began watching David with a suspicious eye. The enemy started whispering lies to him, causing bitterness, distrust, and division.
Saul's actions eventually resulted in God removing his anointing on him and putting it on David. Once the accuser's words become part of our beliefs and we continue to meditate upon them, our thoughts turn to actions. While David played soothing music for him, Saul throws a spear with the intent to kill him. This occurs a second time.

Sunday Morning Series - Enduring Change - The Accuser
Text: John 8:2-11 and others
Satan is often referred to as an accuser. (Revelation 12:10) Many times he gets people to do the same thing. In John 8:2-11, a woman is hauled before Jesus and accused of adultery. They have an ulterior motive. If Jesus says to stone her, the people will be upset with Him. If He says not to stone her, the religious leaders will accuse him of going against the Law of Moses. They think it's the perfect trap.
Jesus doesn't answer their question. Did you know you don't always have to answer a question? Instead, He wrote in the dirt. When He stood up, He told them to let the one without sin cast the first stone. They all walked away.
Accusers are angry and bitter people. I Corinthians 13:4-8 gives us qualities of love. Can we walk in these qualities and at the same time stand as an accuser? Isn't the goal of Satan evidenced in his temptation of us to take on the role of accuser? Who's work are you fulfilling?
Science has proven there are negative effects to bitterness and anger.
Bitterness - Adverse changes in metabolism, immune system function, and organ function. In the short term, bitterness may actually boost self-esteem by allowing us to blame others for our problems.
Some short and long-term health problems have been linked to anger. They include: headache, digestion problem such as abdominal pain, insomnia, increased anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, skin problems, heart attack, stroke, and even harm to your lungs.

Sunday Morning Series - Enduring Change - Getting Rid of Anxiety
Text: 2 Corinthians 11:24-28 and various
There is nothing in the Word of God on how to stop opportunities to be anxious from coming at you. My situations do not create my worry, fear, or anxiety. If I'm waiting for my situations to change through prayer or some other way, I'm stuck.
In this passage in 2 Corinthians, Paul lists many situations, but how many of these can he control, alter, or change? He's been through multiple beatings, a stoning, shipwreck, in peril among false brethren, the Gentiles, his own countrymen, etc.
Matthew 6:19-34. It's our reactions to situations that's the problem. We're told here to to worry about:
1. Life
2. Our bodies
3. What we will eat or drink
4. What we'll wear
Worry and anxiety will:
1. Wear you down physically.
2. Weaken you spiritually.
3. Focus your energy into useless activities.

Spirit-Led Prayer Conference
What a wonderful time of soaking up God's Word and getting to know Kelly and Gina Lynnes! We'll be meditating on the principles they shared for a long time.
If you missed the opportunity to attend, the messages are available on our church website (Zoe Christian Fellowship). Under the Media tab, select Sunday Sermon Player where you can subscribe, download, or listen, or use your podcast software. Search for "Stephen Hecht" as the list is shorter than if you search for Zoe.
Thanks to the women, who worked so hard on the delicious breakfast and lunch. We enjoyed the time of fellowship and the opportunity to get to know Kelly and Gina, as well as the visitors.

Sunday Morning Series - Enduring Change - Focus
Text: Luke 17:11-19
The lepers in this story made their journey because of a great need. They had no other hope of healing besides Jesus. When there's no hope, this journey is easiest.
Other things keep people from this journey. Their attention is on their jobs, relationships, finances, etc. For most people, the importance of something is not proportional to the attention it receives.
Focused on a Command
In Luke 17:14, Jesus commands the lepers to go show themselves to the priest. The only reason to see the priest was a change in their physical condition. Anyone will make a trip if they are sure they will get something. It's the lack of certainty that keeps everyone from making it.
These ten lepers had faith that something would change. Without it, what Jesus told them to do would not be lawful.
Focused on Worship and Thanksgiving
As the lepers went to see the priest, they were healed. One of them, a Samaritan, went back to Jesus to thank and worship Him. The others were still focused on need. But one changed his focus to what was important, worship and gratitude.
What has God spoken to you? FOCUS!
1. Do not (never) be anxious or worry (Philippians 4:6). Carrying this kind of weight puts strain on you and weakens you. It supports things in your life you don't want. Symptoms of anxiety include:
Restlessness
Irritability
Muscle tension or aches
Headaches
Sweating
Nausea
Difficulty sleeping or staying asleep
Tiredness
Trembling
Difficulty breathing
This is a partial list found on a medical website.
2. (Always) Be glad and rejoice.
Do you complain? Are you yelling at things, people? You cannot complain without setting aside your gratitude, joy, and gladness.
See: Psalms 9:1-2, 31:7, 32:11, 34:1-3, 68:1-4, 70:4, 104:33-34, 118:24
