Text: John 8:2-11 and others
Satan is often referred to as an accuser. (Revelation 12:10) Many times he gets people to do the same thing. In John 8:2-11, a woman is hauled before Jesus and accused of adultery. They have an ulterior motive. If Jesus says to stone her, the people will be upset with Him. If He says not to stone her, the religious leaders will accuse him of going against the Law of Moses. They think it's the perfect trap.
Jesus doesn't answer their question. Did you know you don't always have to answer a question? Instead, He wrote in the dirt. When He stood up, He told them to let the one without sin cast the first stone. They all walked away.
Accusers are angry and bitter people. I Corinthians 13:4-8 gives us qualities of love. Can we walk in these qualities and at the same time stand as an accuser? Isn't the goal of Satan evidenced in his temptation of us to take on the role of accuser? Who's work are you fulfilling?
Science has proven there are negative effects to bitterness and anger.
Bitterness - Adverse changes in metabolism, immune system function, and organ function. In the short term, bitterness may actually boost self-esteem by allowing us to blame others for our problems.
Some short and long-term health problems have been linked to anger. They include: headache, digestion problem such as abdominal pain, insomnia, increased anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, skin problems, heart attack, stroke, and even harm to your lungs.
