Sunday Morning Series - Under The Surface - The Stuff in the Middle
Text: Exodus 3:1 - 4:17
There are three phases for moving into God's purposes for your life:
1. Called - When God first informs you what He wants you to do.
2. Preparation
A. Training
B. Teaching
C. Stretching - this is where you're taken beyond your comfort zone.
D. Building (bridges) - reconnecting you to the gifts and talents He's give you.
3. Sent (Anointed, set apart)
Whenever we are stretched in preparation for the call of God on our lives, the enemy will attempt to turn our thinking negative in several areas.
1. The First - What I think of myself (Exodus 13:1-12). Moses did not see himself as able to do what God said.
2. The Second - What I think others think about me. (3:13-22) Moses had tried to lead the Israelites out of Egypt in his own strength. He knew they would remember his failures.
3. The Third - What I think their reaction to me will be (4:1-9). He thought he'd be rejected.

SUNDAY MORNING SERIES - Under the Surface - Bad Seed
Text: Matthew 13:24-33
The Kingdom's Enemies
In this passage, good seed is sown during the day and in full view. At night, "his enemy" came in to sow tares among the wheat. The design of the attack is to look like wheat. There are things sown in the Kingdom of God that were not sown by God or His people.
What kind of bad things are sown into the Kingdom of God?
Words
Bad attitudes
People are not the ones sowing bad seed in your life. It's the enemy. People can do things that open the door for the enemy. If I've got bad seed in my life, it's my fault. I accepted it.
The Kingdom's Corruption
Verses 31-33 relate the story of the mustard seed. Everyone thinks this is a good parable, but it's not. Mustard seed is an herb and grows into a bush, not a tree. So, here we see the nature of the plant has changed. It also talks about the birds of the air taking shelter in this tree. Birds always represent Satan and his kingdom in Scripture.
This parable shows the Kingdom of God being corrupted. This can occur through false doctrine or teaching.

Sunday Morning Series - Under the Surface - Captured
Text: I Timothy 4:1-8 and Various
We've been looking at how to avoid false doctrine. I Timothy 4:1-8 talks about departing from the faith. The actual Greek word is, "aphistemi," which means, cause to revolt, desert, lead away, mislead, depart, fall away, abstain from, withdraw from.
1. The deception is not to attack your belief in God because you'd resist this.
2. Instead, the deception steers you away from sound doctrine or His Word. This path will end up taking you away from your relationship with the Lord.
This scripture also talks about giving heed or paying attention to a doctrine contrary to the Word of God.
1. Your attention is captured by a new way of thinking.
2. Everything comes back to it when you try to bring them back to the truth. This new doctrine has become the only important one to them, and those who do not see the light of it are scorned.
How do we avoid being captivated by false doctrine? Please visit our website and click on the Listen Tab for the entire message. You can listen online, download it to your MP3 player, or podcast.

Sunday Morning Series - Under the Surface - Becoming False Teaching Proof
Text: 2 Timothy 4:1-5 and Various
How do we become false teaching proof?
1. Create an atmosphere that makes false doctrine uncomfortable.
2. Resistant Soil - If you know the Word, you'll get a warning from your spirit.
A. If you dislike a certain food, no matter how it's fixed, you won't eat it.
B. The enemy will try to make it palatable.
3. Direct Confrontation - This can be done either privately or publicly. In Acts 18:24-26, Paul publicly rebuked Peter for his hypocrisy. He ate with the Gentile believers, but when Jewish believers arrived from Jerusalem, he withdrew himself. Since this was done in front of everyone, the correction had to be public.
4. A love for the Word -
A. Not a love for what's new.
B. Content with what the Word teaches (John 14:1-24). You cannot separate the word from Jesus. I John 2:5
5. Pathways to Truth -
A. Clearly taught in the Word.
B. Repeatedly taught in the Word.
C. Examples and demonstrations give in the Word of God.
I Timothy 4:1-8 says that in the latter times some will give heed to doctrines of demons.
Put yourself in a position to endure and be healthy. In the natural we try to make good choices on what to eat. Spiritually, make good choices on what teaching to receive. It must be in line with the Word.
Exercise - We physically exercise to stay strong, and being doers of the Word likewise increases our spiritual strength.
Clean up - We remove the dirt from our bodies. In the spiritual sense, we walk away from what the Bible teaches is sin.
Socialize - We're well rounded when we socialize with others. We grow together as we remain in fellowship with other believers.
