Text: Exodus 2, 3, and 4
Exodus 2:1-15 tells us 12 times what Moses did. There is not a single mention of God in this passage. Did that mean he was all bad? Hebrews 11:23-27 tells us he was a man of faith and forsook Egypt.
Once he discovered his Hebrew heritage, he wanted to see and help his brethren. He didn't go about it the right way, seeking God's direction. Instead, he went and saw an Egyptian mistreating a Hebrew. He looked around and then killed the Egyptian. The next time he went there, two Hebrews were fighting. When he chided them, the one asked if he was going to kill him like he killed the Egyptian.
Frightened that his deed was known and that Pharaoh sought to kill him, he fled to Midian. The shame he felt caused him to quit the calling of God on his life, but God didn't quit on him. The children of Israel were in bondage for 390 years at that time. They were supposed to be freed after 400 years, but Moses' mistakes stretched that out to 430 years.
What did it take to turn Moses around and humbly follow God's direction? Please visit our website and click on the Media Tab for the entire message. You can read it online, download it to your MP3 player, or podcast.
