Text: Acts 17:1-15 and various
In Matthew 13:18-23, we have the Parable of the Sower. The second type of ground is described as, "stony." It's characterized by all outward show but no root system. This type of person is unable to endure tribulation and persecution.
In Acts 17:1-15, we see the people at Berea were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica. They received the word and went to the scriptures to see if what they were told was true. By doing this, they were establishing a strong root system that held up when the Jews from Thessalonica came to stir up trouble.
