Resurrection Sunday Message

What happened between the cross and the resurrection? Where did Jesus go, and what did He do? We learned some interesting facts this morning.

1) Before the cross, hell was a place with two areas. Jesus' story of Lazarus and the rich man shows us that one part brought torment, while the other comfort. The place of peace was called, "Abraham's Bosom." Old Testament believers looked forward to the time of their Redeemer (Jesus). When Jesus died on the cross, He took those in Abraham's Bosom, held captive by their sins (although not in torment) and brought them out.

2) Some facts about hell: It is in the center of the earth. It is a temporary holding place for the unbeliever. The ultimate place of torment is the Lake of Fire after the final judgment.

3) After Jesus rose from the dead, believers no longer go to Abraham's Bosom but to Heaven.

We don't major on what happened between the cross and the resurrection. The Bible does not say this is crucial to our salvation. Check out the sermon player on the website for the full message complete with scripture references.

We rejoice that Jesus freed us from the tyranny of sin and set us at liberty. He is risen indeed!
