2 Samuel 6:1 - 7:17 tells the story of David bringing the Ark of the Covenant back to the Tabernacle. A new cart is used for transporting the Ark. Today's equivalent might have been a Cadillac or Lexus.
When the cart threatens to tip over, Uzzah reaches out to steady the Ark. The moment he touches it, he dies. While David made elaborate preparations to carry the Ark, he didn't follow God's instructions. The Ark had rings attached. Poles were supposed to be put through them. Levites would then lift it by the poles, never touching the Ark.
Simple But Right
David leaves the Ark in the care of Obed-Edom, who was a Levite Gatekeeper. After 3 months, he returns and brings the Ark back God's way.
Tent or House
David finally experiences peace and prosperity. One day, he compares his house with the tent where God's presence dwells. He decides to build God a house, but God tells David he's been a man of war. The temple would be built by his son, Solomon.
We must be faithful to do what is asked (not what we think or want) and do it with a faithful attitude. What has God asked you to do?
