Sunday Morning Series - Faithful & True - Different Directions
In I Samuel 15:17, we see that Saul once viewed himself as little in his own eyes. Then he went and got a big head. Instead of serving God, his focus switched to serving himself and protecting his own interests. This resulted in him making decisions that disqualified him as the king of Israel.
In direct contrast to Saul, his son, Jonathan became close friends with David. Both David and Jonathan were valiant men. While Jonathan knew David was anointed as the next king, he did not try to protect his position as next in line to the throne. He recognized God's hand on David's life, and fully supported him.
Saul tried to enlist Jonathan's help in destroying David, but he refused. Selfish people will try to get you to fight against those whom God has anointed. When you see people afraid of losing stuff or their positions, be on the alert against selfishness or we could find ourselves working against the Lord.

He's Only A Prayer Away - Bro. Naz
The Lord is only a prayer away. You don't get some angel on the phone saying, "Please hold for the next available representative." You don't get a recording saying, "Due to high call volume, we can't answer you right now."
He's only a prayer away.

Love Is Not Fretful - Miss Ethel
On Saturday, I walked into a store, all happy, and ready to shop. The lady gave me a hard time, and I left disappointed. For two blocks, I walked stewing about the incident.
The Word of God came back to me, "love is not fretful." I tried to play dumb. "What is fretful, God?"
He wouldn't let me get away with that one. "What you've been doing for the last two blocks. You want me to rewind the tape? Let it go!"
I let it go. If I hadn't, it would have ruined my day and stolen my peace. I'm challenging all of you to read the love chapter, I Corinthians 13, in the Amplified and see what the Lord does in your life.

Sunday Morning Series - Faithful & True - Selfish?
If we invite the preacher for dinner, a selfish attitude would say, "I'm providing him with a meal." The preacher's selfish attitude might say, "I'm giving them of my precious time." Contrast that with a selfless view on the part of a host, "I'm grateful he's spending time with us." The selfless preacher might say, "They're blessing me in the best way they know how."
Jesus used a parable to teach the people at the feast. A parable is a made-up story to present a truth from the Word of God. The host invited both Jesus and the man with dropsy to the meal. Was he being set up, tested? When Jesus saw how some of the guests chose the best seats, he taught them a parable.
People try to hide their selfishness. They'll use all kinds of excuses. In the parable, Jesus showed an angry host when they refused to come. Some said they couldn't attend because of financial reasons. Others begged off due to family concerns and business. They didn't value the host or the invitation.
Selfishness and faithfulness cannot exist together. However, if the enemy can't get you to be selfish, he'll try to sell you on the wrong kind of selflessness. Jesus wants us to help the poor, but the enemy wants us to think it's wrong to have anything. Well, how can we assist the poor if we have nothing? We can be selfish when we have little or nothing. "Look what I'm doing for you God."

Sunday Morning Series - Faithful & True - Patient
What is patient endurance? It's faithfulness in thought, word, and actions. God promised Abraham a son, but that promise wasn't fulfilled for a long time. Abraham had some "patience failures," but he got back on track. God's promise hadn't been revoked because of his slip-ups. When Abraham persevered in patience, God met him, and Isaac was born.
What are some challenges to patience? Fear is anxious, while faith is patient. The enemy piles on the stress, trying to provoke a fearful reaction instead of patient faith. Do we make mistakes? Sure. Yet, like Abraham, if we repent, and move forward, we'll see the reward of patient faith.

Sunday Morning Series - Faithful & True - Satisfied
Jeroboam was to:
heed all God's commands
walk in all His ways
do what is right in God's sight
keep His statutes (laws) and commandments
How was he to do this? ...as David had done!
The result: "...then I (God) will be with you and build for you an enduring house, as
I built for David, as I built for David, and will give Israel to you."
Jeroboam started off great as a mighty man of valor, hard-working, and a leader. King Solomon could count on this guy to get the job done. Not too long after this, we find Solomon trying to kill Jeroboam. Why? What changed? Apparently, Jeroboam wanted to speed up the prophetic word even though he was told all this would not happen until Solomon's son was king. He ends up fleeing to Egypt until after Solomon's death.
Jeroboam had a task list from God. Instead of obeying Him, he started thinking about his future and got out of God's timing. Those thoughts acted like seeds planted in the ground. They sprouted and grew into rebellion against Solomon.
Solomon eventually dies, and his son ascends to the throne. He treats the people even worse than his father. Jeroboam becomes king over 10 tribes as God told him. Does he get the message, and mend his ways? Nooo, he starts entertaining bad thoughts again. This time, he's afraid to allow the people to go worship God up at Jerusalem. He's concerned they will turn back to Solomon's son and try to kill him.
He sets up golden calves, altars, and establish a priesthood. Jeroboam could have walked in God's blessings, but he let it all slip through his fingers by ignoring God's conditions. His idolatry set a pattern for the nation of Israel. Unlike the House of David, Israel never had a godly king, and Jeroboam's kingly line is cut off.
The story could have had a "happily-ever-after" ending. Unfortunately, the potential hero disobeyed God, and destroyed his own destiny.
