Sunday Morning Series - Faithful & True - Different Directions

Last week, Pastor Steve spoke on selfishness. Today, he used the story of Saul, Jonathan, and David to show where our choices lead.

In I Samuel 15:17, we see that Saul once viewed himself as little in his own eyes. Then he went and got a big head. Instead of serving God, his focus switched to serving himself and protecting his own interests. This resulted in him making decisions that disqualified him as the king of Israel.

In direct contrast to Saul, his son, Jonathan became close friends with David. Both David and Jonathan were valiant men. While Jonathan knew David was anointed as the next king, he did not try to protect his position as next in line to the throne. He recognized God's hand on David's life, and fully supported him.

Saul tried to enlist Jonathan's help in destroying David, but he refused. Selfish people will try to get you to fight against those whom God has anointed. When you see people afraid of losing stuff or their positions, be on the alert against selfishness or we could find ourselves working against the Lord.
