Sunday Series - Reigning in Life - The Kingdom's Guard
A king doesn't guard his own palace. He has people, who perform that task. We have certain safeguards we can put into effect in our lives.
A lot of people think because they are saved by grace that means they can do whatever they want. Colossians and other scriptures debunk this theory. We're told to mortify (or put to death) our old man and put on the new man. The words, "put on," are the same as we use for getting dressed. It doesn't just happen, but requires intentional effort on our part.
What are some of the things were to "put on?"
Tender mercies
Kindness: "goodness of heart, kindness"
Humbleness: humiliation of mind, ie., modesty: humbleness of mind, humility (of mind), lowliness (of mind)
Meekness: "is the opposite to self-assertiveness and self-interest; it is equanimity of spirit that is neither elated nor downcast, simply because it is not occupied with self at all."
Bearing With One Another: Ephesians 4:1-3
Forgiving One Another
But Above All These Things: "put on love" Love is what binds us together in the Body of Christ.
Inward attributes of the new nature:
"Let the peace of God RULE" - To act as an umpire, to arbitrate or decide.
"Let the Word of Christ dwellin you richly..." Have a grateful heart.
And whatever you do in Word (speech) and deed (action), do it in the name of Jesus.
Use what God has given you: 1) Set your mind. 2) Put to death the old man and his ways. 3) Let the peace of God rule...

Sunday Morning Series - Reigning in Life - Reigning With A Good Conscience
Jesus didn't let them get away with these words. He knew they didn't believe what they were saying. The scripture says that He knew their thoughts. They didn't like seeing the crowds follow Jesus because that meant the people weren't following them. Jesus informed them if they talked against Him it would be forgiven, but talking against the Holy Spirit wouldn't be forgiven. It's the unpardonable sin.
Now, if people are doing this in ignorance, that's one thing. However, the Pharisees knew the truth and deliberately ascribed the work of the Holy Spirit to Satan. See Hebrews 6:4-6.
How do people get to the point of committing this unpardonable sin? They sear their conscience by going against it. They become desensitized to that inner warning system. Matthew 12:33-37 tells us a tree is known by its fruit, and we are known by our words. If you're sinning with your mouth, your conscience will condemn you. II Timothy 1:3 - apart from a clear conscience faith is hindered.

Sunday Series - Reigning in Life - A Common Anchor
Pastor Stephen Hecht read from Romans 14:1-14. This scripture talks about receiving those who are weak. What makes one weak? Believing something inaccurate can make a person weak. The amount of correct knowledge is what determines our spiritual strength and brings life as opposed to bondage. What you think on a subject is important to your freedom and ability to reign in life.
One of the areas where it is important to have a right knowledge base is righteousness. If someone asks us if we're righteous, what should be our reply? Do we feel we're being prideful if we say we're righteous? Well, if we're thinking it's our own righteousness, sure we're being prideful and mistaken. However, if we recognize it's not our righteousness that clothes us but His, then it's perfectly legitimate to say we're righteous. When we're established in the light of God's truth, we'll be able to walk in freedom.
If you want to know more about how to walk free in Christ, check out the website. The message will be available on the sermon player, for downloading on your MP3, or podcasting.
Our Sunday services start at 10:00 A.M. We're located at 1111 Easton Rd. (Rte. 611), Warrington, PA. We'd enjoy meeting you.

The Youth Group will meet on Wednesday, 9/9/09, at 7:30 P.M., over in the Children's Church area during the regular service. Come out and invite a friend!

Sunday Series - Reigning in Life - Qualified to Reign
Did you ever wonder why Jesus had to be born of a virgin? The human race was infected by sin as a result of Adam's fall. Scripture tells us that sin is passed through Adam (not Eve). If he'd been born with an earthly father, he would have gotten the sinful human nature. So, the man was bypassed in order that he would be free. Jesus is called, "the second Adam." He fulfilled God's requirements of righteousness, and then took on the penalty for our sins on the cross.
You may ask, "what does this have to do with me?" Everything! When we recognize our sinful condition, ask Jesus to forgive us, our sins are washed away, and we are covered by his righteousness. Ephesians 2:8, 9 tells us that we're saved by grace through faith. It's not because of our righteousness. If it was, we could boast. Forgiveness and God's grace to live for him is a gift - unearned and undeserved.
Until we have this clear in our hearts and heads, the enemy can beat us up with all of our failures and past sins. If we understand that our sins are forgiven and we are covered with the robe of righteousness, he can't neutralize our effectiveness as believers. Guilty people do not reign in life. Timid people do not reign in life. Those who see themselves as unrighteous do not reign in life.
How do I become righteous? Pastor Steve read Luke 15:11-32. It's the story of the prodigal son. How did the son get restored to fellowship with the father? He changed his mind about his way of living and returned home. He did not feel worthy to be a son, but wanted only to be a servant. Instead, his father ran to meet him, hugged him, and threw a big party in his honor. The son could have refused the robe his father gave me because he felt unworthy, but he received it.
Jesus made the way for us to be reconciled to the Father, to enjoy fellowship with him. The opportunity is there. The gift is offered. Will you turn from your own efforts to please him and accept his offer of grace, forgiveness, and mercy based on what Jesus did through his life, death, and resurrection?
