Sunday Morning Series - Steady or Stubborn - Pressure Comes In Many Ways

Text: Exodus 3:1-4:20, 2 Samuel 11, Matt. 26:69-75

Sometimes we feel pressured to go in a certain direction. Athletes learn to resist pressure. Discern where pressure is coming from: circumstances, the enemy, or the direction of God. We need to resist the pressure originating from circumstances and the enemy, but yield to God's direction.

Moses felt pressure when God told him to go back to Egypt and deliver the Children of Israel. He gave God all kinds of reasons why he could not go. His problem was not obedience. When God told him to pick up a snake by the tail, he did it. When God told him to put is leprous hand (a disease transmitted by touch) into his bosom, he obeyed. His problem was going back to Egypt, the place where he had failed. The kind of pressure Moses faced comes from feelings of inadequacy and/or past failure.

Pressure exposes both weaknesses and strengths. Believe God for the smaller things that cause pressure, so you get accustomed to it. Then when big pressures arise, you'll be able to face the challenge.
