Sunday Morning Series - Give God Something To Work With - Whatever
Text: John 2:1-12, Luke 5:17-25, Luke 17:12-14, John 11:38-45, Acts 3:1-10
Jesus attended the marriage in Cana of Galilee. Most likely, it was a family event. He was in attendance, but didn't have any responsibilities. When the wine runs out, it creates an embarrassing situation. It's possible Mary, the mother of Jesus, has some involvement in the festivities. The servants take orders from her and obey them.
She approaches Jesus not as her son, but as the Son of God. After telling Him of their dilemma, He responds negatively to her request and tells her His time has not yet come. Yet, the anointing has fallen on Him, and the disciples are picked. Moms tend to notice the subtle changes in their children.
Mary instructs the servants to do whatever Jesus tells them to do. The word, "whatever," means regardless of the cost or anything else. It's not referring to the way some people use that word today, which means, "I'm no longer listening to you." There's no whining with God. Whatever God says to you, do it.
When the Word of God comes to you, you need to put it into action. Lawyers study precedents because they often take on the weight of law itself. At this wedding, a precedent is set that we see throughout Jesus' earthly ministry: whatever He says to you, do it.
Application:
1. The action - His command
2. The catalyst - our obedience
3. The reaction - the power
4. The product - You get your miracle.
