Text: Mark 10:46-52
Blind Bartimaeus' occupation was begging. A crowd meant opportunities to receive donations. The money would provide for him for a day, maybe two. This crowd was different. They were following Jesus.
Bartimaeus had heard of Jesus before and believed if he could get an audience with Him, he would receive his sight. Yet without hope that would happen, he continued to beg. Bartimaeus, like many, believed and had faith.
When he discovered the crowd was following Jesus, he called out to Him. I'm sure he must have thought about what he would say if by some chance he encountered Jesus. He calls out to the Lord, addressing him as Jesus, thou son of David. This grabs Jesus' attention. The beggar recognizes He is of the lineage of David, the king. Jesus tells him to come.
Bartimaeus casts away his beggar garment and hastens to the Lord with the aid of some people in the crowd. That garment gave him the right to beg and told others he was really blind. It showed his utter faith that he would be healed. He received his sight that day.
