Sunday Morning Series - A Heart Condition - One Direction
Text: Various
There are only two kinds of hearts described in the Word of God:
1) Hard
2) Soft
Last week, we looked at King Asa. He's described as having a loyal heart all his days. Yet, he did things that were not always good.
A hard or soft heart is not based on location. A heart grows. It's based on direction. The direction in which your heart is growing determines whether your heart is soft or hard. If you're moving in obedience to God, your heart is soft. If you're refusing His direction, it's hard.
People who have soft hearts will have good fruit, while people with hard hearts will exhibit bad fruit. Pharaoh is the poster child for the hard heart, and the fruit of his life was bad. The fruit of Moses was good. (Matthew 12:33)
The fruit of your heart:
1) Matthew 5:27-28 - committed adultery in his heart.
2) I John 3:15 - committed murder in his heart.
What you do in your heart, it's considered as being already done. What you say with your mouth doesn't override your heart.
What happens in the heart does not stay in the heart.
Which direction are you moving?
1) Hear
2) Obey
3) Expect - It's hard to do this when it doesn't seem hearing and obeying has any effect. It took 25 years for Abraham to see the fulfillment of his hearing and obeying - Isaac.

Sunday Morning Series - The Wisdom of God - Do Not Lose Heart
Text: 2 Corinthians 4
The Light in Us
We've received mercy, and we're told to not lose heart. You just need to keep going. Whatever you do, don't quit. The light referred to in this scripture shines in our hearts (internal) not externally like on our face of skin.
We have a light or illumination on the inside of us. Often we acknowledge our ignorance instead of His light in us. You can see stuff others will miss. Don't speak about being perplexed. Speak about the wisdom of God that's coming.
We're earthen vessels, but within us we have a treasure (2 Corinthians 4:7-15). We're hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed. We are perplexed but not in despair. According to 2 Corinthians 4:13, we have the same spirit of faith as Paul.
All things are for your sakes - Every detail works to your advantage and to God's glory: more and more grace, more and more people, more and more praise! (The Message) They are not sent by God, but they can be used by God through y our faith for your advantage.

Sunday Morning Series - The Wisdom of God - Get Things Done!
Text: I Kings 3:1-9
Solomon followed his father's directives except he sacrificed to God at the high places of Gibeon rather than Jerusalem. God appeared to him there, but it did not mean He approved of Solomon's disobedience.
God asked him, "What shall I give you?" Solomon's response shows his:
1) Humility
2) Foresight
3) Desire
His brothers' attitudes were in direct contrast:
1) Amnon - loved his half sister and raped her.
2) Absalom - killed Amnon and tried to usurp the throne.
3) Adonijah - also tried to take the throne.
Solomon's motivation for the request for discernment and understanding shows his desire to rule the people well.
The only story we have about Solomon's great wisdom is the two women (harlots) fighting over a baby boy. He calls for a sword and declares the child should be cut in two and half given to each woman. The true mother gives up her right to raise the infant to preserve his life. Solomon declares she is the mother.
Today, we'd have a DNA test ordered, go through all sorts of legal proceedings, and put the baby in foster care. It would probably take months or even years before the situation was resolved. Solomon got the job done immediately.
In life, it does not matter how hard or how long you work. Is the stuff you're getting done going to count? God's wisdom will show us how to get done better and quicker.
