Sunday Morning Series - Attaining Completion - But I need...
Text: Exodus 15, 16, and 17
From too much water to no water, Israel keeps having water problems. Three days after the Red Sea opened for them to pass through, they found no water. Supplies likely dwindled, setting them up for a test at Marah.
Finally, they see water, but it's bitter. Instead of asking Moses or praying to God for water, they murmured against Moses. God looked at the situation and found it had everything they needed.
We shake our heads at their unbelief, but what do we see in our lives? How do we react when we need a job, money to pay a bill, or a promotion at work? It seems the answer may be on the horizon, but it doesn't work out. Do we become disillusioned, embittered instead of being patient and enduring.
What did God use to meet their need? He used what they had - bitter water and a tree. All through scripture we see this happening. Jesus used the boy's lunch to feed a multitude. God multiplied the oil of a widow to free her from debt and provide for her and her sons.

Sunday Morning Series - Attaining Completion - Panic or Patience
Text: Exodus 13:17-14:31
Pressure causes us to move/change. To the Hebrew, if God didn't do something to stop an event, they viewed Him as responsible for it. God put stops in Pharoah's way, but he blew through them until Egypt was nearly devastated.
The Israelites lacked patience. One of the great characteristics of carnal people:
They're really up or they're really down.
When Moses asked Pharoah to let his people go, Pharoah made their life harder. The people were unhappy. When he finally let them go, they rejoiced. Their arrival at the Red Sea with the Egyptian army chasing them sent them into a panic. When they crossed over on dry land and saw their enemies drown, they celebrated. The pattern continued throughout the years. They never learned to trust God in the hard times no matter how He showed Himself faithful.
God doesn't like crybabies. When trials come, we'd do much better to pray:
"God, this has come up, but I thank You that You have the answer. James says if we ask for wisdom You'll give it to us. Give me wisdom and show me what to do."
God has a way for you to get through whatever challenges you're facing. When pressure comes, endure and stay with what God told you to do. Don't turn on your boss, your family, or church leaders and blame them for your situation. Trust God to bring you through and don't freak out.

Sunday Morning Service - Attaining Completion - Patience - Not Just Good Character
Text: James 1:2-8
1. But I Have Needs!
A. If I am insufficient in an area, then I am in lack or I have a need.
Many needs are recorded in Scripture. See John 13:29, Acts 2:45, Acts 4:34-35,
Luke 9:11, 2 Corinthians 11:9, I John 3:17
B. Should there be times of need? See Hebrews 4:6, Titus 1:5. Just because I have needs
doesn't mean I can't have joy or patience.
2. Many people say that trials produce patience. That's incorrect. It's the testing of our faith that produces patience.
3. Why do we have impatience? When I have a need now, and it doesn't change. It's fine to have a need, but we have to handle it right.
4. How is patience produced? The trial you fall into - God didn't lead you there. When you fall into it, be glad, count it all joy.The trial will test our faith. We need "bull-dog faith," a total refusal to let go of the word and promises of God.
5. When we fall into a trial:
A. Maintain our joy. Don't get mad, angry, or whine.
B. You may fall into various trials, but don't walk into them. Let God guide you around them.
C. Your need may not be revealed yet, but James tells us to"let patience have its perfect work..."
which means it's up to you.
D. Ask for what you need in faith, without no doubting. Remember, just because you have doubt in your head doesn't mean it's in your heart. Stay in faith.

Sunday Morning Series - Attaining Completion - The Ephod of God
Text: I Kings 17:1-16 and Various
In the Old Testament, if you wanted an answer from God about a situation, you went to the priest. The Ephod and the Urim and the Thummim would be used be used to get you a "Yes" or "No" answer. This method of seeking God is no longer used. The peace of God is the New Testament equivalent of the Ephod.
Many Christians are waiting to be led by words from God instead of the peace of God. During Elijah's day, there were still those who served God in the land. They were in the same drought although they didn't have the same guilt. God led Elijah to a place with provisions, but over time they dried up.
Highlight: "God's provision is not in a place but in His command." - Pastor Stephen Hecht
The enemy often distracts us by focusing our attention on the wrong issue. Elijah was sent to the widow and asks for water. The request was increased until a test was produced. Faith that is not tested is not know. Note: The test is not to show God where we're at but to show us.
What did the widow give up:
1. It wasn't much.
2. It was all she had.
3. Was what God asked for.
Giving what you don't think you need or won't be using is not faith. This is giving without hope and faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
What helped the woman?
1. Is the command from God (Yes or No)?
2. Is Elijah a man of God (Yes or No)?

Sunday Series - Attaining Completion - "Oh My!"
Text: 2 Kings 6:1-23
In 2 Kings 6:1-7, a man loses an ax head in the water. He says, "Alas, master..." There's great concern on his part because it was borrowed. Where does your peace go when a situation comes up like this in your life?
Joshua also used this term after the defeat at Ai. In Hebrews 10:32-36, we're told not to cast away our confidence which has great reward.
When the movie Jaws came out, many people's peace was shaken about going into the water. Enduring those "Oh My" moments by going through them with faith will keep you in peace. How can you tell if you're in faith? You'll have joy and peace.
When we come to those "Oh My" moments, our peace is in the cross hairs. If we lose our peace, we become unstable and easily moved. It's critical to:
1) Maintain the peace of God
2) Endure
3) Hear the Word or renew your mind.
4) Command.

Sunday Morning Series - Attaining Completion - Peace of Fear
Text: Galatians 1:1-16
False brethren came to spy out the liberty of the early church. Their intention was to subvert the truth and bring people into bondage. There are those who fellowship with the body of Christ, but are not a part of the body of Christ. How do we protect ourselves from them?
1. Know they exist
2. Compare every teaching, principle, etc., to the word of God.
3. Love the truth more than anything.
In Galatians 2:11-13 - Peter visits Paul and the believers at Antioch. Peter establishes a pattern of behavior with the Gentile believers. He eats and fellowships with them in peace.
When a group of men came from James and Jerusalem, their presence caused a change in Peter's behavior. He withdraws from the Gentile believers, fearing those from Jerusalem. Paul addresses Peter in front of them all. All the Jews were guilty, so the confrontation of Peter was for the benefit of all, not the disgrace of Peter. Paul brings them back to faith.
Don't make decisions based on fear. Make decisions based on faith.
What happened here in Antioch?
1. The peace of God lead them into a pattern of behavior.
2. Others came in and the pattern was altered.
3. Fear came in over what those people might think.
4. The peace of God was no longer the umpire; fear took its spot.

Sunday Morning Series - Attaining Completion - The Peace of God
Text: John 16:33, Philippians 4:6-9, and various
Just as joy has a function (strength), peace also has a function. We're told in Philippians 4:6-9 that peace guards our heart - keeps it protected.
How do we maintain the peace of God?
1. No anxiety.
2. Prayer with thanksgiving (not prayer with complaining - "Oh God, this is so hard).
How do I stop being anxious? I Peter 5:5-9
1. The reason I take on the care of a thing is because I don't think God is doing a good enough job of it.
2. Keep thanksgiving in your life. John 14:1-4 - "Let not your heart be troubled." It's up to you!
3. Isaiah 26:3 - The enemy of perfect peace is a lack of trust. The enemy doesn't have access to your heart - only your mind. You have access to your heart. The peace of God is a stabilizing force.

Sunday Morning Series - Attaining Completion - Joy is a Product
Text: I Samuel 30
If the enemy wants to pull you down, he'll go after your joy. When David and his men returned to Ziklag and discovered their wives, children, and goods had been carried away, they grieved. Scripture tells us that David's grief was caused by the people wanting to stone him. Others were grieving for their children. It doesn't matter what causes you grief - right or wrong. It steals your joy.
How do you regain your joy? Joy is something produced. It is the result of a process:
P - Process - When producing something, there are steps you must take to get the desired end result.
I - Ingredients - When baking, you want the freshest, highest-quality ingredients.
E - Effort - It takes action on your part.
S - Skills - You get better at producing results as you practice and hone your skills.
What is needed to produce joy?
1. Hope instead of despair
2. Faith instead of fear
3. Promises instead of so-called realism
What did David and his men do? I Samuel 30:7-16 They sought God and asked Him if they should pursue the enemy and overtake them. God gave them direction to pursue and promised they would recover all. This gave them hope. They followed through with action. On the way, they encountered an Egyptian. The man was sick, starving, and thirsty. He told them the Amalekites left him behind when he got sick. They spent some time feeding and helping him. In return, he told them where the Amalekites were headed.
How do I get back to producing joy?
1. Renew yourself on God's promises to build up your hope.
2. Persevere - Don't waver from what God said. (Faith)
3. Discover - God's plan
4. Work! - Put some effort into it.
David and his men received the promise of God and acted on His instructions. They pursued their enemies, and recovered all the people and goods that had been stolen.

Sunday Series - Attaining Completion - Joy in Life
Text: Acts 13:42-14:20
Joy or Jealousy
"...many of the Jews and devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas..." These people had come to accept the Gospel of Jesus Christ and seemed to have no problem with it when they left.
The next Sabbath, a huge crowd gathered to hear Paul and Barnabas. Suddenly, there was a problem. The unbelieving Jews saw the multitude and were filled with envy. They contradicted and opposed the apostles. These leaders eventually succeeded in expelling Paul and Barnabas from their city.
When Paul met with Silas in Derbe and Lystra, they began working together. (Acts 16) When Paul cast the demon out of a girl, her handlers saw their hopes of profit dashed. They dragged Paul and Silas into the marketplace and before the magistrates. Their clothes were torn off and they were beaten.
They ended up in the inner prison, their feet in stocks. Paul and Silas prayed and sang through the night. They did not allow their circumstances to rob them of their joy even though they must have been cold and in pain.

Sunday Morning Series - Attaining Completion - Stay Out of the Quicksand!
Text: Nehemiah 8:9-12 and Various
If the joy of the Lord is your strength, what would you do if you were the enemy? You'd do everything to rob that joy. Fear, anxiety, worry, bitterness, anger, and resentment are all joy killers.
We make the mistake of thinking joy is a feeling, and it can be. However, joy is a state of being. If the Word of God tells us not to worry, then we have the ability to not worry. If the enemy can steal your joy (your strength), you'll be too weak to fight the battles of life.
Change Your Actions (Proverbs 21:15)
This scripture tells us that it is a joy to do justice, but destruction will come to the workers of iniquity.
1. What you do affects how you feel.
2. Don't long for the joy the world has; yours is better!
3. Proverbs 15:21-23 - Folly is joyful to those who are destitute of discernment. Do you have understanding or are you destitute of discernment?
4. Doing just things brings joy. If people don't receive it, that's their problem. Don't let their response steal your joy.
This is a taste of the message. To get the complete meal, please visit our website and click on the Listen tab. You can listen online, download it to your MP3 player or podcast.

Sunday Morning Series - Complete in Him - That Your Joy May Be Full
Text: I John 1:4 and various
In 2 Corinthians 13:9, the apostle prays that they may be made complete. We start incomplete and must realize it. first, we become aware of the particular good qualities or things that we're lacking. (Acts 16:30-31, Matt. 19:16-22)
Second, we make changes to facilitate adding those to our lives. Third, we develop habits to sustain these additions and keep them going.
Do you lack joy? I John 1:4 says, "And these things we write to you that your joy may be full." People can bring joy (2 Timothy 1:3-4). Events can bring joy (Matt. 2:10, Matt. 28.8,Matt. 13:20-21). They can also bring sadness. These things are not lasting, so we must find a better way.We must find joy in what is written not what is external.
What are some joy killers?
1. Fear, worry, anxiety
2. Anger, unforgiveness, or resentment
3. Doubt and unbelief
The enemy wants to pull you in this direction to kill your joy. The goal is for your joy to be full, so get rid of the joy killers.
