Text: I John 4:1-3 & Various
We're starting a new series today on knowing the voice of God. Knowing what God told you can be a matter of life and death as seen in the life of King Josiah. He thought God wanted him to fight a particular battle, but he was wrong. It cost him his life.
This scripture is written to believers, and they're exhorted not to believe every spirit. We are to test them to see if they're of God. There are many voices:
1. The Holy Spirit.
2. Our spirit.
3. Our flesh.
4. Other people.
5. Wrong spirits.
Before you believe and act upon something you've heard:
1. Is this something God would speak to you about? If it's for someone else, are they being mentored by you or under your direct authority as a church leader? Do you have authority in their lives?
2. Fasting will help us discern the difference between the voice of our spirit and the voice of our flesh.
3. If a matter is in another person's jurisdiction, why would God speak to you about it?
Faith in the wrong voice will take you down a wrong path, as will not believing in the right voice.
