Text: I Corinthians 13:1-9
What is God's love?
Kind
This comes from the Greek word, "chresteuomai (from chrestos) - to show oneself useful, act benevolently, to be kind. It's the same word used in Ephesians 4:32, Matthew11:30 and Romans 2:4. Putting on a smile and not saying what you feel is not being "kind." It isn't suppressing your feelings, but looking at something with a long-range view.
A child goes through various stages, and we work with them to get through each one. In the same way, we put up with the inconvenience to ourselves for the benefit of others and help them through a particular level in their journey toward maturity.
Long Suffering
This word refers to patient restraint of anger - a long time before you get to anger. What makes love able to do this? It is not tuned into self. It is selfless, hope filled, growth-seeking love.
