Text John 16:33 and Others
Tribulation - Things from outside that come against us such as persecution.
Troubles - Things from inside us involving the past and present. Situations with jobs, finances, relationships, etc.
Anxiety - Things that are coming up in the future.
John 14:27 tells us, "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid."
The purpose of this kind of tribulation is to get us to:
1. Stop believing
2. Start fearing
3. Not to trust
These are the enemy's goals. He wants to rob us of our peace.
When Jairus came to Jesus, he was in a desperate situation. His daughter was dying. Jesus agreed to go with him and heal her. They're interrupted by the woman with the issue of blood, and she tells Jesus her life story. While this is going on, a messenger comes to Jairus and tells him his daughter is dead. Jesus stopped and commanded him to not fear. Jairus obeyed, and his daughter was raised from the dead. (See Mark 5:22-43.)
In this passage we see that all our situations don't need to be fixed in order to have peace. All we need is Jesus. He gave Jairus His word, and the man received it.
