Text: Mark 5:21-24, 35-443
Is faith past, present, or future? When Jairus came to Jesus, what happened in the past had a positive effect on his outlook for the future. He knew that Jesus had power to heal the sick. When his daughter was dying, he knew where to go for help.
He approached Jesus and told him, "My little daughter lies at the point of death." This was a statement of how things are in the present but not how they will continue to be. If we cannot acknowledge how things are, how can we believe for a change?
Jairus then says, "Come and lay Your hands on her that she may be healed, and she will live." He's making a statement of how things will be once Jesus comes on the scene - she will live! Jairus' belief in the past causes him to believe in a future change, altering the state of how things are.
While Jesus is talking with the woman with the issue of blood, messengers come with disturbing news. Jairus has a choice: give up or continue to believe. How does Jesus handle this, and how does Jairus respond?
