Text: Matthew14:22-33
This passage of scripture is familiar to many people. Jesus dismisses the crowds and tells the disciples to cross the sea ahead of Him. When the boat is in the middle of the sea, the wind and waves are hindering their progress.
They see someone walking on the water and think it's a ghost. Jesus identifies Himself. Notice, it's the fourth watch - between 3 AM and 6 AM. Peter speaks out and asks the Lord to bid him come if it's really Him. Jesus says, "Come." It wasn't a command, but merely a response to Peter's request.
As long as Peter kept his eyes on Jesus, he also walked on the water toward Him. When he looked at his circumstances (wind and waves), he began to sink and cried out for the Lord to save him.
He stepped out of the boundaries of faith. Faith will get you started, but doubt will keep you from finishing.
So, what's outside of our boundaries?
1. Considering anything else except what Jesus said.
2. Looking to anything but what Jesus said.
3. Doubting anything that Jesus said.
4. Adding to anything that Jesus said.
According to Jesus, this is putting faith into the doubting arena.
