Text: Numbers 22:1-23:26
This is a story most believers know about, but they don't often study. It's somewhat confusing because they have a hard time figuring out if Balaam was a good guy or a bad guy.
At this point in history, Israel's victories over the Amorites and King Og of Bashon terrified the Midianites and Moabites. This fear caused them to band together to defend their territory. Somehow, Balak knows about Balaam, of Pethor. This area is about 400 miles from Moab.
Balak sends out messengers to hire Balaam to curse the Israelites. Balaam tells them he must ask God what to do. Apparently, he's accustomed to hearing from God at night. He seeks permission from God to go with the men, but God says, "No."
Balaam is the opposite of Moses. For every genuine prophet, there's a counterfeit. A commentary the Jewish people use for the Talmud considers him a sorcerer. Moses was commissioned to do something by God, while Balaam is asking permission to do something.
The enemy always throws some truth in with a lie. How can we tell if what a person is saying is of God or not? To hear the full message, please visit our website and click on the Media Tab. You can listen online, download it to your MP3 player, or podcast.
If you're visiting in the area during this Christmas season or longing for more of God in your life, we invite you to our Sunday Morning Service at 10:00 AM. Zoe Christian Fellowship us located at 1111 Easton Rd. (Route 611), in Warrington, PA. We look forward to meeting you!
