Sunday Morning Series - Victory for Doubters - "But I Said It!"

Text: Matthew 26:31-46, Numbers 14:20-45

Review: The difference between head doubt and heart doubt is what comes out of our mouths.

Jesus tells the disciples that all of them would stumble and deny him. How many would see that as a negative confession (v. 31)? They did not receive His words.

Peter, as usual, verbalized his disagreement. "Even if all are made to stumble because of You, I will never be made to stumble." Of course, he did deny Jesus three times. Why didn't his confession work? Peter believed what he said. Everything that comes out of his mouth proves it. What was the override?

Truth is not always positive, but it is better to know and act. If Peter believed Jesus' words, he would have taken Jesus' warning to heart and watched and prayed. It would seem Peter was a man of faith, but his confession was not based on the Word of God. Wanting, desiring, or longing does not equal faith. The foundation must be the Word of God.

I do not produce faith by what I say. I speak what I already believe, not what I desire.
