Sunday Morning Series - Steady or Stubborn - What is Exalted?

Text:  Luke 14:1-24

Jesus is invited to the home of a Pharisee for dinner. Among the guests is a man with dropsy. The Pharisees were always trying to entrap Jesus. Known for healing folks all the time, including the Sabbath, their plan to trip Him up was obvious. In their minds, they were exalted (lifted up), while Jesus was criticized.

When we treasure something, we accept or fix it. If a loved one gave us something and is now in heaven with the Lord, that object takes on special meaning. It reminds us of them, so we put a high value on it.

How do we keep God and the things that matter to Him in the most exalted place?

1) Be thankful.

2) Treasure what God treasures. When I worked for a pizza restaurant during my school days, I determined that I would do the best job possible. That attitude caught the eye of my boss and resulted in promotion. God values people and desires that they come to know Him. When that becomes our priority, He takes notice.

3)  Do what is important to God first. Usually, our priorities center around ourselves. When we put God first, we're exalting Him in our lives.
