Text: I Kings 13:1-34
After Solomon died, a prophet told Jeroboam and he would become king over 10 tribes. The remaining two tribes would stay with the house of David.
The word gets out to Solomon's son, and Jeroboam flees to Egypt. While in Egypt, Jeroboam is exposed to their gods and worldly influences.
When he's made king of the 10 tribes, he becomes fearful and tells himself that if the people go up to Jerusalem to worship, they'll abandon him. Be very careful what you say in your heart. If God gave you a promise, go after it God's way.
To keep the people at home, he makes two golden calves. Some of the people went to Judah when this occurred, but many bought into this worship.
God sends a prophet to him and condemns the heathen altar. By doing so, judgment is also declared upon those who follow. Jeroboam comes against him (not his message).
That same prophet was instructed by God to deliver his message and to not eat or drink until he returned home. On his way home, another prophet tells him an angel appeared and instructed him to come to his house and eat. The first prophet accepts the word even though God gave him clear instructions. The man lied to him.
Satan will use anything he can to destroy our faith in God's Word and raise up doubts:
1. From without
2. From within
God speaks to the prophet who lied and uses him to condemn the true prophet who he deceived. If God can use this man, don't disqualify yourself for ministry. Don't let the enemy disqualify you.
What helps us endure and remain faithful?
1. After you hear from God, begin seeing yourself doing what He said.
2. Declare it at every opportunity. Jesus did this all the time. Remember when He was in the temple and read the Scripture? He then closed the scroll and said, "This day is this scripture fulfilled..."
