Understanding Unbelief
There are three main reasons people do not receive healing:
1. Disobedience - You recognize the truth, but refuse to obey it.
2. Unbelief - You hear the truth, but refuse to accept it.
3. Ignorance - You've never heard the truth.
Unbelief is the rejection of truth. Jesus called Thomas unbelieving (faithless). It is not possible to be in unbelief about something in which you've never heard. Thomas heard the truth, but rejected it as untrue.
Blind Bartimeus
He heard that Jesus was near and cried out. There was immediate pressure from the crowd to be quiet, but he kept on calling him. Jesus stood still. Bartimeus cast away his beggar's garment. This item validated that he was indeed blind - like an official license to beg. He was so convinced Jesus would heal him that he tossed it aside. He had faith before he was healed.
Jesus asked him what he wanted. He replied, "that I might receive my sight." The focus is on his receiving not God granting or doing anything.
