Sunday Morning Series - Having Faith in Your Prayers - What Did You Say?

Text:  John 2:1-12

At the time of the Marriage of Cana, Jesus had just started His ministry. He's been baptized by John the Baptist, anointed with the Holy Ghost, and the disciples had been chosen. Mary brought the problem of no wine at the marriage feast to His attention. She approached Him as one who could do something about it rather than as her son. Perhaps she noticed He'd experienced a change. So, when Jesus addressed her as, "Woman," it was not being disrespectful to His mother. He was responding in His capacity as Messiah.

Mary goes to the servants and instructs them to do whatever Jesus tells them to do. We don't know if the marriage involved relatives or friends, but she no doubt had some authority to direct them.

When Jesus instructed them to fill the jugs with water, they obeyed without question. Every time Jesus told someone to do something, it seemed to have no bearing on the situation at hand. Think about putting mud on the eyes of a blind man and telling him to wash in the pool of Siloam. Now, they have no wine, and He's telling them to fill heavy stone jugs with water.

After they completed the task, Jesus told one of the servants to bring a glass to the head of the wedding. Again, the servant obeyed without question. The head of the wedding called the bridegroom and noted that the best wine was served first and then the more inferior wine. He went on to say the bridegroom had saved the best for last.

What is Jesus saying to you? Before you hear and obey the spoken Word to your spirit, you must first do what is written (Scripture).
