Sunday Morning Series - the Need For Faithfulness - But I Need More
Text: Numbers 16:1-40 & Various
Jeremiah and Ezekiel were contemporaries. Jeremiah belonged to the upper classes, so he was carried away to Babylon during the captivity. Ezekiel was in the lower classes and remained in Jerusalem. In addition to these true prophets, a false prophet, Hananiah, predicted the captivity would only last two years, while the true prophets were saying it would be many years (70).
The people became so confused as to who they should believe that they began to despise prophecy. They didn't want to hear it anymore.
In Numbers 16:4-11, we see people (Korah and others) who served God in the temple perceived that Moses as:
1. Taking on too much.
2. Thought he was better than others.
3. Exalted himself.
4. And kept them from ministry.
To envy what others have is to despise what we have been given. Grow in your role within the Body of Christ and don't try taking someone else's upon yourself.
A rebellious person is in pursuit of what someone else has and feels that they are more deserving of it. Moses set it up for God to decide the argument. He points out that Korah and those supporting him did not highly esteem what God had called them to do.
